Maybe around what Amir Johnson is getting? Which is about 3.5M. Rockets will be 3M under luxury next season. If they traded Chuck Hayes for a TE and then replaced him with Mike Harris on a rookie contract. Rocks would have around 4.5M to split between Landry, Green, a backup C, and another player. I doubt they can move Francis's contract early other teams might want to see if he can stay healthy or can still play first.
Yeah, it sux but there were a lot of posters who were calling to get rid of Landry and were a lot more sold on Francis and James returning and Novak developing (finally) and keeping Mike Harris--it was a fantastic job to draft the guy in the first place and to work out something where we hung on to him at all. I just hope mgmt sees to it that "OT junior" wears Rocket Red for a looooong time to come...
Waiting to see what he puts up numbers wise by the end of the season. His agent will take those and compare them to others in the league with the same numbers, then contact other interested teams to see what they will offer, and that will be the Rox price to keep him. Wait and see I guess, but right now no less than 3 mil for two years.
If Landry keeps up that 22.4 PER which has him sandwiched between the All-Time PER leaders Tim Duncan and Chris Paul, everybody is gonna try to get him.
This proves Morey is not all knowing or he would have offered Landry a five year contract before the season started!
His per is + 10.26 I think if any one gives him a 5 year 30 million dollar deal off one season we then we have to let him go.
Can't really blame the front office for the contract, Landry wasn't even supposed to play this year. It's completely unexpected that he'd be kicking so much ass right now, double-clutching dunks on fools. I remember it took forever to sign Landry because there was basically no money left over for him after the Rockets signed Francis and Scola. Hell, I assumed the guy would spend the year in the NBDL, along with Brooks. That isn't how things played out, thank God. Anyways, Landry and his agent definitely weren't happy with the deal they ended up signing and I'm sure they'll be cutting the Rockets no breaks this summer after being treated as a total afterthought last year. I'm sure the Rockets will find a way to keep him, unless some team goes absolutely insane trying to get him, which is pretty unlikely unless we make a deep playoff run and Landry goes nuts.
The reason that the Rockets don't have a team option on Landry for next year is most likely because the team and Landry's agent couldn't agree on the amount of guaranteed money on Landry's contract for this season. Keep in mind that the Rockets owed a lot of money to guys like Justin Reed, Jackie Butler, Kirk Snyder, Bob Sura, etc. Heck, the Rockets will still have to pay Reed's (and perhaps Butler's) salaries NEXT YEAR! The organization was trying to take precautions with having to pay luxury tax on any guaranteed money owed to Landry if he were cut during training camp. As it played out, Landry outplayed Butler and Reed to keep a spot on the roster. Landry will be a restricted free agent this summer. This means that the Rockets will likely cool most teams' interest by claiming that they'll match any offer for Landry. This tactic works time and time again for teams with young restricted free agents. My guess is that Landry ends up re-signing with Houston for a portion of the MLE or, if Daryl Morey plays his cards right, the Bi-Annual Exception of about $1.8M. If he is restricted it's just a matter of les deciding to pay or not. It's not like we can lose him if we choose to keep him, so what's the problem. Do y'all think we won't be able to afford him, or afford him and another player? I thought we were loading up on expirings to be able to get another player via trade next season....
I highly doubt anyone, including ourselves, would pay Landry full MLE money after only one season. I don't mind dipping into the MLE at all to re-sign him though, especially with all of our expiring contracts to be had 2/09. This offseason will focus 2 things, re-signing Landry and finding Yao's new backup.
Landry is the perfect player to compliment Yao and make up for his short comings. -rebounds -dunks/put backs -hops -hustle We can not afford to let Landry go at any cost.
Scola makes around 3 million and will make 3.3 million next season. Hayes makes a little less than 2. His agent will probably at least ask for what Scola makes, basing it on the fact that Landry has more years and upside left.
pay him what he is worth and be done with it, he is a solid guy with a lot of heart, you don't see enough of those kind of guys nowadays.
