Guy, Luther and Rafer were the top two 4th quarter 3 point shooters. Face it, your point about JVG ruining shooters is blown up. Did JVG ruin the shooting of Jon Barry, Mike James or Shane Battier? No.

Nobody is arguing JVG is good at offense but this ruining shooters stuff is nonsense. One person here (not you) even tried to blame JVG for not fixing Chuck Hayes' shot.

I can't find Guy on the roster (wasn't he a kicker with the Raiders? ;) ), and Luther and Rafer had their moments -- we all tend to remember the winners but not the misses.

However, IMO JVG did not inspire confidence as much as fear in shootists -- and that's why they floundered. Jackson's and Rice's shots began to fail, but I attribute that to age. Boki has blossomed under a different coaching style. V-Span is hitting game winners again. Pike and Novak are classic examples. Do you see the tendency?

However, this is a debate that does not belong in this thread. I was just responding to an insult. What is germane is the fact that Carl Landry was a million dollar mistake. We could have done a lot better.

4.8 whopping shot attempts per game during 5 summer league games sounds like a ton of scoring opportunities to me. He still shot 50% from the field and pulled down 6.6 boards per game. Also every player was allowed up to 10 fouls during those crappy games. I watched the games as well and also saw him play in college. The kid can play.

OK, but most people (including the Rockets) weren't impressed. I remember Morey commenting about AB and Landry after summer league and his choice of words about Landry were underwhelming. You might be right about him though. Either way, he'll probably end up signing and we can get a look at him in preseason.

This is all the agent. Landry has no leverage and will take bones to play for an NBA team.

Are you kidding me? What's he going to do - play in Europe?

Actually, that might be good for us.

Oh my he want more money :D
    He will get it
    hmph
    hmph
    never :D
What I am trying to say that he's no role type of player until he proves us wrong.
He is alredy 24-25 and he isn't super young.
If he plays good he will not worry about money :D

The Pacers also traded Steven Jackson and Al Harrington for Dunleavy, Murphy, and Diogu. Look how that worked out for them. You're talkin about a team who had no draft picks except for a trade to get someone named Stanko Borac. A team that had a horrible season and has made close to no offseason moves to fix it. Do you really wanna be associated with the Pacers?

I'm glad someone is actually using their eyes and sense to evaluate Landry.

After watching him play during the SL, I think one of Landry's weaknesses was he was waiting for the game to come to him instead of being more assertive like Brooks and Harris. He's going to have to realize he will be a role player in the NBA and no longer a go to guy like he was at Purdue when most everything ran through him. Outside of that I really think this kid has some very good offensive skills and could potentially help the rockets in a pinch every now and then in this upcoming season. I think this pick was made for the future, especially if the rockets knew that they had a real shot at aquiring Scola before the draft. They made Landry a priority and gave up alot to get him, we will see if it eventually pans out.

I agree with you about Morey sounding alittle down on him after the summer league. Let's see if he gets any clock during the preseason.

    Agree with you

    conrete examples?

how about mike james, jon barry, david wesley, bob sura, scott padgett, rafer alson, and shane battier?

you know what they share in common? they all increased their 3 pt % the year they joined a jvg team over their previous season. that little ogre sure can't coach shooters. they just wither here, don't they?

and since you included novak, a guy who has no skill beyond shooting plus no nba experience, as a player who jvg somehow "ruined" then i'll give you luther head, who has been extremely successful as a shooter and one of the best in the league last season. his only coach, van gundy.

your argument is based on crap like, "they were ineffective shooters" or "they didn't make them when they counted." considering the rockets had the 5th best record in basketball while yao ming sat out 32 games, and alston and head were among the leaders in 4 quarter 3pt%, i'd say you are absolutely full of ****. as usual, jvg hate, is just blinding to the facts.

sorry for taking the thread off-topic, i'm done with it now.

I respect the opinions of members of the board, right or wrong, heypartner, just as I expect members to respect mine, right or wrong. If subjected to invective, I am fully capable of a curt response.

There, I changed my reply so that your name is not the first word of a sentence, which I normally capitalize. BTW, I guess I need to fix my sig.
