I like Camby's shot blocking, length and rebounding, but Landry should stay. I want to see how much progress can he make instead an expiring contract. I would retain Chuck too, despite his offensive woes. We aren't likely to get another defender like him, with a cheap contract.
Should have made it a poll, it would be interesting to see if there is a disparity between the two or it's about the same for each.
I don't think this is thread-worthy, and I wasn't sure where to add this.. but there's an article in the rumor section of ESPN.COM that says the NBA will fine a bench player for standing up during the game... I think this is ridiculous. The NBA is getting out of hand with these silly regulations. Teammates get really excited and it's second nature to stand up and cheer... I noticed it especially with Houston. We always have a very supportive group and it's gonna be STUPID, knowing all they can do is sit. Personally, seeing the Rockets players up and cheering is an extra treat when watching the games. But I realize there's nothing I can do. I just thought I'd share.
DD, I think you're missing the point. As i said in my post, this isn't about trading for Camby. That was just me fooling around / killing time on ESPN's Trade Checker... I could've just as easily been trying to make trades work for any other player. alot of replies are focusing on the fact that i mentioned Camby... I'm not advocating any sort of trade with this thread. nor the acquisition of any player. Camby was used randomly as an example to pose my question. simply, I'm asking the question: Who would you part with first? if the other team was willing to accept either Hayes or Landry.
It's probably just for players that stand up to complain about an officiating call. There's no way the NBA would fine players for standing up and cheering for their teammates. That's encouraged at every level of basketball.
First, I like this trade if there is one. As for Hayes or Landry, I agree with others. We need keep Hayes because of no Yao, and Clippers likely want to Landry instead of Hayes, so we have to give up Landry.
You know Hayes is only 3 months older than Landry right? In terms of experience, yes, Hayes has more. However, Landry also may prove to be more injury prone. Landry may never reach his potential. As of now, I would say that Hayes is a slightly better player than Landry. When you factor in that Landry would fetch a lot more value in a trade because teams value offense too much compared to defense, I would prefer to trade Landry for sure.
Really tough choice, people always under estimate defensive players because it doesn't translate well on the score board. I honestly thought the Chuckster was a better defender than Artest, he just didn't play the amount of minutes that Artest did. Its closer than you think but I guess you have to give the nod to Landry because he's taller, has an O game and his athleticism.
Pretty tough question as I love both guy's hustle and effort. Especially since Chuck Hayes has won two or more playoff games in the final moments (drawing the final charge), and Landry is just a beast throwing it down and has started to develop his midrange jumper. They both happen to be the same age as well so there is no advantage there. I would give the edge to Landry in the end though simply because he is more valuable around the league and has a much higher ceiling than Chuck, who can only be used in specific situations. Landry can do so much more offensively and what he gives up in defense and rebounding is far less than what Hayes gives up on offense. Landry is not as bad as he is made out to be on defense and can get weakside blocks from time to time.
If one has to go, I would like Landry to be traded first simply other teams see him as more valuable than Hayes.
Camby is intimidating? LOL He was never a team defender, but more like a ball slasher. He can get as many blocks as he likes, but his team always sucks at defense. And from time to time, ppl always watch the game from stats.
Hayes would be the first to go, IMO. Landry has better athleticism, rebounding and scoring skills, though is not nearly the defender Hayes is. Though I imagine teams would want Landry well before they'd take Hayes.
I think we have had our fill for more than two lifetimes! No more well past their prime players hired and presented as saviours of the team. If we get a good backup Center he should be one with vitality and youth, one who can grow with the team . Camby's play just wont fit in with the new direction of our team. Y
carl lost some his bigtime athleticsm after that knee injury he had late during his rookie season...that...and the near-death shooting didn't help either... I think Carl is worth a whole lot more on the trade market than Chuck is though...so I think we know which one we want to trade when the appropriate situation arises
I would trade Hayes if I could, and I love Chuck Hayes. The problem is this team needs more size, and more offense. 14 players are going to be able to be on the active list. That means 2 players will be inactive once McGrady is back. At this point it is Brian Cook, and you have to think another forward right now. We assume it would be Dorsey right now, or maybe even Chase, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see some inactives for Chuck this season. That would happen only if Dorsey, and Andersen play well though. I actually think that another 2G, could make the team, and Cook get waived, which may hurt Chuck too.
Wow, the sheer number of posts that totally miss the point pretty much proves the level of basketball fan this forum has. 99% of you don't understand the game. The majority of the posts consisted of; "I would trade Landry because he has more trade value." The point the original poster was trying to make is, who is more valuable, hence, who would you be MORE WILLING to give up, Landry or Hayes? It has nothing to do with who will fetch more in a trade. All things equal, whether you are trading for Marcus Camby or Kobe Bryant, who would you give up, Chuck or Carl? The vast majority of you would still give up Chuck before Carl, which pretty much proves that you have no real understanding of the game and like to watch people dunk on each other and play no defense.
