I was going to post how I thought he could and should learn to shoot from that range. However, you make a great point. It would be better for Landyr to learn some moves to use with his back behinds the basket, becasue he is too valuable around the rim.
why would we want him at the 3pt line? i thought we all liked him getting the offensive rebound and stuffing it back in? so who'd be hustling for the rebound if yao gets boxed out? i would rather concentrate on improving his finishing around the basket. landry cant make a shot under the basket if it's not a dunk. that and footwork and set plays for him when he's with scola.
I've seen some articles about the shooting range will be expanded by Carl the past summer and it being said that Landry worked hard to practise shooting 3s. But for now,I just don't see it coming and he did improve his jumpshot.Good work though.
Then who's gonna go grab the boards for the Rockets? And he could shoot the 3s but it's not gonna happen that way.7'6 footer pulls up from behind the arc.
This WAS said after last season. There was an article in the chronicle where Landry said the team gave him "homework", which was to expend his range and he said he was working on adding a 3 point shot this summer...Mike Harris had similar homework as well, both pretty much were told to improve their ball handling and shooting range.
of course he is.........that and landry basically had a rebound and put back dunk off a rafer missed ft but decided to bat the ball out of bounds for no reason.
Those pointing out this was supposed to happen this past offseason are correct. We even had the ESPN writer (I forget who) that said Landry should expand his range and model his game after Paul Pierce. Landry is a good player....but yeah right.
He said it during a Rockets hour segment on 610 when I was eating Timmy Chan in the UH parking lot before class. No source? Bah. I have DETAILS! Landry and the Rockets have been discussing stretching his range in the NBA. I know he's been working on it, but if it was usable in the game, he'd already be out there.
no one is saying that he is going to shoot only 3's all game, every game. just that it would be another dimension added to his game. and if you can honestly say that he can't finish unless it's a dunk after watching last night's game, then you're a blind idiot
this was last year, but before shootaround, him and brooks were practicing and landry was making a lot more 3s than missing during this session specifically. just saying... i agree id like to see him take a couple but lets not take him away from what he does best. the occasional 3 to surprise the opponent would be perfect...
Landry's problem is not his shooting -- he is shooting his jumper much better this season. It is his defense. He is too short and can't hold the position when being posted up. And he doesn't always play smart.
Same thing was said about harris and in the summer league he actually was hitting some 3's so i don't know why landry wasn't already working on that in the offseason
that's exactly what we need - landry shooting 3's. let's just turn him into robert horry - a tremendously gifted high flying athlete parked on the 3-point line letting it all go to waste. anyone remember horry flying in to put back a missed free-throw a-la michael jordon? anyone remember the last season you saw horry do something like that?
Why are people so narrow mided? Evey time there's a "this big man should add a 3 point shot" comment or post some people always assume they're trying to turn them into a 3 point shooter only. Why cant they have the inside AND outside game??? Why is it bad for a player to be well rounded?? If a guard is praised for adding a post game, why cant a post player have an outside game?? There's absolutely nothing wrong with a player expanding his skill set. it only makes him and the team better and gives them more options and talent to work with, in others words more WINNING.
Is it really? Is passing up a wide open jumper stupid? Hmmm... I must not know anything about basketball then. Landry is one of my favorite players and yea he did have a great game besides two mistakes he made, but anyone who knows anything about basketball knows to shoot a wide open shot when its given to you, come on man. Maybe YOU , sir, should spare yourself another post like this next time. Good day.
Dude who started the thread said if he had deeper range he would be unstoppable. I just stated that he stopped himself last night by passing up that wide open jumpshot he had, when he was shooting what like 7/9? He was unstoppable hitting from midrange last night and yet he passed up the easiest shot he wouldve had all night. Any more questions?
