The only Zoo that mattered was the 93Q Morning Zoo with John Landers, Mr. Leonard, and the Tookie Bird.
I'm pretty bummed about losing both John & Lance in the morning in such a short period of time. I thought their show was great becasue they talked sports but were funny as hell in interacting with each other and their guests. Lance obviously had more sports knowledge, but John played the role of goofy sidekick well. They were the best thing on the radio in the morning. I really think 610 is making a big mistake in not retaining these 2. As for the others, Matt Jackson is probably the strongest one left, alhtough he can get on my nerves slightly. He's got good insight, is willing to express his opinion, and sounds like a professional. It's good that he stopped trying to be mini-Rome. He's gonna really need to carry the afternoon show because Rich Lord is not so bright. CP on 790 is still the best sports radio guy in town, although a partner would be nice to break things up. Vandermeer is too PC and too much of a homer for me, and I haven't heard enough from Andre Ware to draw a conclusion. The conflict of interest is definitely concerning. I don't care too much for the evening crew as both those guys are pretty boring and sound like just regular guys off the street. I like Carl Dukes, but I don't care for the D&D morning show. Davies is flat out annoying, coming off as a typical elitist Yankee. 97.5's afternoon team is pretty bad. They sound like amateurs. Vargas is OK, but Solomon seems to just say stuff to be controversial. Maybe that's too much about sports radio guys in Houston, but that's what guys like us are into.
I used to like listening to John and Lance many years ago. Sounds like a terrible decision to replace them with Vandemeer and Andre. Vandemeer is way too much of a homer. Leave him to doing the play by play. I like CP definitely the smartest of houston radio. This from someone how only listens when visiting houston a few times a year. Whats up with 610 losing their top talent. Why the shakeup? Something must be going on to take the path of self inflicted suicide it seems they are.
Vandersmeer monopolizes the mic, Andre just adds in his occasional "well when I was a player....", and that is all he offers. That show stinks now. It's terrible.
I remember Moby giving a very young fledging Hannah Storm grief about her "hooters" daily for like 2 solid years. If Moby should someday fall to an assassins bullet..Hannah hired it done.
I am through with 610;but what they should do is pair laura reynolds with matt jackson, she would work wonders. It's the only thing that can save them. The Secret Society will live on,you can be certain.
610 morning show has gotten SO boring. It sux.It sounds like theyre broadcasting the texans game. On every topic MV is the play by play guy and it sounds like Andre is the color commentator. I think 610 might realize this when companies start pulling their advertisements. if you can't stay for 30 seconds to listen to the show. whose going to stick for the ads. I hate 790 morning show. FM sucks. Now im stuck listening to depressing news on 740. I think im going to invest in sattelite radio.
You guys should have listened to 97.1 this morning. Nothing like some old Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash tunes to get your day going. If they would only stop playing Willie Nelson songs, they'd have me 100% of the time.
All these morning shows are one reason I'm very happy I have sirius radio(the other being no commercials). I can listen to music or a national sports driven talk show instead of uninteresting conversations. I like listening to sports talk radio too, as I listened to 1300 the zone in college and 610 down here but i'd much rather get non stop music.
This is terrible news for my most beloved radio station. Oh well, at least they still have Mattj and Rich....for now. Andre and Mark in the a.m.??? They should call their show, "The Snooze Button". I just cant wait to wake up and listen to how the Texans have driven their franchise further into the ground.
Gave the guys a try this morning. What a mistake! Good god I almost fell asleep in the shower listening to those two goobs. I actually switched to Davies and Dukes for the remaining 30 minutes before Stern and while I wasn't highly impressed, it was definetely better than Ware and Vandy. Horrible radio. Chance, grab a life jacket and abandon ship. PS- 610, Nobody even watches the WNBA on the tube, yet you guys put 'em on the radio? LOL!
