You too? We know, that's why long-time listeners on this board like you MJ. I will only tune in when you're on. Just don't forget to try and get Rich high or something before the show so that he would let you get a few words in.
This probably does it for me. I enjoyed John and Lance, and was surprised how much I was enjoying Matt and Lance. I think the main reason I enoyed it was because the talk wasn't 50% website and the polls on it, 30% football and 20% other stuff. If you don't know, I'm describing 790. Now with Marc and Andre coming on.....I can only imagine how much more football talk we'll get. 610 will probably turn into 60% football and 40% other. When it comes to listening, I enjoy Rockets and Astros talk....Texans is a very distant third. Whichever station is going to give me the most is the one I'm going to listen to, and now it doesn't look like I'm going to be getting much from anyone. I guess it's time to burn some new CD's..... See you at the new viewing party Matt, I wish you the best. Pugs
Of course on some Texans forum somewhere the guys over there are all pumped up saying, "Did you hear the great news? Vandy and Ware in the mornings!!! I'm sick of all that Astros and Rockets talk!"
I don't doubt it for a second. The way I see it....There's already so much Texans talk that every Texans fan that wants to listen is already listening. However, I'm sure there are quite a few Rockets and Astros fans that would love to listen.....if there was more talk about their teams. It seems to me what they are doing is beating a dead horse. What they need isn't more Texans talk and Texans experts, it's more Rockets/Astros talk and Rockets/Astros experts. I'm sure John McClain (sp?) keeps the Texans fans happy just by himself....and now we're going to be stuck with Marc and Andre on top of that? Pugs
Holy crap, if that lineup is true the mornings are gonna be BRUTAL! And poor Matt getting stuck with Rich. Why not just put Matt and Adam in the mornings so there will be at least one great show? 610 appears to be a sinking ship. Sad.
I don;t understand the switching. Is Rich really so lazy he cannot get up at 5? Marc and Rich in the mornings and MAtt and Adam in the afternoon.
Wow. Just... wow. Now it's not like I spend hours every morning in the car - worst case would be maybe one hour. I've called in enough times that the guys know (knew?) me - 'Dodgeball' - and listened to them since day one. They were pretty much the guys I rode to work with for ten years. And now, it's gone, arbitrarily, just like that. I listened to them because I liked them. So, yes, I am sad, because something I liked has been taken away from me. All I want to know now is 'Why?'. Why did this happen? How do a couple of guys who have worked at a place for ten years suddenly decide they cannot work there any longer? Was this a decision of the two guys, deciding to branch out on their own, work at a 'new' station together? Or was this a reflection of some kind of change in management at the station itself, or results from obviously-declining revenues? (come on, just listen to the advertising - COFFEEMATE? One drunk-driving lawyer after another? Dog food? I'll bet it was the coffeemate thing that sent these two guys overboard.) Since we obviously have some 'insiders' on this board, how about one of you come in with an anonymous new ID and spill the beans? Give us the details. I'll tell you one thing though: There is not a bigger tool on the radio than Rich Lord (charlie palillo is the possible lone exception). Vandemeer is an excellent radio man, is extremely intelligent, and unfortunately has to spend his time on the air with Rich, trying to cover Rich's stupid arse from every moronic thing which comes out of his mouth. Getting him away from Lord will be a blessing. However, I couldn't care less about the Texans - I have seen maybe 2 games on tv, won't ever bother going to see a game live, and no way in hell I would have ever spent time listening to it on the RADIO (why, for God's sake?? Why? Why would ANYONE do that?), so I have no opinion of Andre. So we'll see there. The other guys, Matt, Adam, Rob, JFizz, Chance, and whoever is still left on that sinking ship, I like you guys ok, but I never have the radio on in the evenings, so, again, no real big opinions there. I do know that the 'big revenue' time slots for talk radio are the morning and afternoon drive times, and 610 just lost the strength of their station, so they better do something quick. Back when the afternoon was the 'dream team' of Rich and charlie, I managed to become a real big Sean Hannity listener. Anything but the soul-killing combination of those two! Pretty soon, though, I imagine I will be hunting the dial until I hear John and Lance on another station, and then 610 is gonzo.
Nero -- honestly, it sounds like the opportunity for Granato was too good to pass up. 10 years is a long time to do anything...and i'm guessing they were open to change. combine that with the opportunity, and it shouldn't be shocking. the truth is, guys like this don't usually stick this long. they had staying power in this market...and they likely will be reunited up the dial.
they are really dropping like flies. i will lance when he would go off on some irrate rant and miss some of his impressions, but i certainly wont miss his routine overtalking and the talking over of guests...and the lung hacking we are familiar with. With granato gone though, he just doesnt seem to have that head guy to lead the show...which he needs. no more texans communist radio?
Yeah, despite their well-documented flaws (Granato constantly pimping LSU and the SEC, Lance coughing and imitating Adam Sandler), I've woke up to those 2 guys every morning for the last 10 years. I'll miss them. If they reunite on another station, I'm there. This sucks. First Stevens and Pruiett, then Phil Hendrie, now John and Lance. Who's next, Chris Baker? Oh wait, I don't like him.
Pretty much. Can't blame Granato, but I do wonder about the viability of the new station. They are going for a "Spike Radio" type thing. If Davies and Dukes are any indication of what that sounds like, this is doomed to failure. As for Lance, he must have gotten a damned good offer somewhere else as I am sure 610 would have offered him more money to stay. With the Rockets and Texans broadcasts, I don't think 610 will be hurting that much, but some good new voices are goiing to be needed.
Are you kidding me??? We hired Andre and MArc for mornings! Of course Commie Radio lives. And from the earlier post you nailed it. The Coffeemate spot did 'em in.
http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4879912.html Vandermeer, Ware to take over KILT morning show tomorrow By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle Marc Vandermeer and Andre Ware, the Texans radio network's play by play tandem, will expand their partnership to weekdays as hosts of KILT's (610 AM) morning show beginning Tuesday, the station announced today. The new morning show will air from 6 to 11 a.m., followed by the syndicated Jim Rome show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the new afternoon team of Rich Lord and Matt Jackson from 2 to 6 p.m. Adam Wexler will continue as the evening host from 6 to 10 p.m., to be joined by a co-host to be named later. The shakeup was necessitated by the departure of longtime morning show host John Granato, who will join the reformatted KILE (1560 AM) later this year, and co-host Lance Zierlein's decision not to accept a contract extension while exploring his career options. Laura Morris, senior vice president of CBS Radio Houston, said she was pleased by the chance to add Ware to the station's daily lineup. She also said she was not concerned that Vandermeer and Ware will temper their conversation about the Texans because of their affiliation with the team's radio network. "Andre certainly expresses his criticism during the broadcasts," she said. "I know there will be those who will accuse them of being homers, but I don't think that is the case. They are respectful. Also, I think we're at a different place in broadcasting today. I don't think people want to be yelled at or attacked, and I don't think that is what listeners are tuning in to hear." Morris also said that Zierlein, who last appeared on air Friday morning, remains under contract with the station. "We're really hopeful that we're going to find an opportunity for Lance to continue to be a part of the SportsRadio team," she said. Zierlein, who is on a previously scheduled vacation trip, was not immediately available for comment.
good god I don't think I can listen to Vandameer first thing in the morning time to keep my car on 97.1 permanently
I'm ok with it is as long as they change the bump music and announcements to Texans Communists Radio Network.
