I give him a 1% chance of pitching this season. It has been 5 months since the injury. If it isn't healed yet it ain't happening. Odorizzi injured the same tendon last year and he was back in around a month so obviously this is a bad injury. Lance needs to get surgery and be ready for next year. If he drags this out so long that he isn't fully ready for spring training next year I am going to be really annoyed with Lance.
Bullpens in May, rehabs in June, debut in July 10-17 range. Still a lot of time for something to go wrong. But getting him back healthy sure would be if for no other reason than just to improve the outlook for 2025-2026.
I'm glad his buisness is providing him motivation to rehab... but that in and of itself sounds pretty strange, doesn't it? Wouldn't surprise me if another slight setback led to his retirement. When your heart is no longer fully into the game you were born/rasied playing, its really tough to put your body through the vigors and grind day-in/day-out that leads to eventual success/greatness. But congrats on Maven, LMJ... will always remember your speeches. And still think your debut season playoff performance (2015 ALDS) was one of the best playoff pitching performances by any Astros SP ever (and was your best performance).
For me it will always be the 24 consecutive curveballs he threw to finish off the Yanks in 2017 ALCS Game 7. One of the most badass performances I've seen on the mound. They all knew what was coming and they couldn't touch it. Injuries suck.
if i remember correctly, didn't he tell them the curve was coming? Lol in some Capacity. Extra bad*ss
Without his start against Seattle in 2022 we may not have won the World Series. McCullers is a legend in Houston no matter how many injuries he gets.
It’s not really strange at all. Something positive has happened to him off the field and that has helped keep him motivated. imagine hooking up with a rad chick. You’re going to have an extra pep in your step. In this case the chick is a coffee bar
Nah, he was pretty passionate about this even before he was willing to admit he needed surgery. He’s very much involved in this business and I hope it continues to do well. Im all for him making it back asap. I just also know it’s far more likely to excel when there is passion behind the drive. It’s still incredibly odd that he’s crediting the business for renewed rehab interest… but that could also be just how the question was framed to him by the reporter.
