IF he gets back to his level before playoffs. Verlander Framber Lance/Javier Urquidy Should give us a good shot.
I like the staff. I do. But Verlander tends to overthrow in the playoffs. We need him to be the guy and match the other teams ace. So somebody has to calm him down just a tad. If we get the stud, we can go the distance with this staff.
Never understood the LMJ is a big game pitcher narrative... his playoff WHIP is far from good and he set the record of hitting the most batters (4!??) in a World Series game back in 2017.
It’s the 2017 ALCS against the Yankees that gave him that rep. I agree though that’s not justified. He’s not Charlie Morton
Before last night's game: Post season 2.77 ERA .216 BA 1.10 WHIP Justin Verlander would kill for those stat lines. Research before you talk out the side of your ass. You people sound idiotic and immature. Would you have posted this before last night's game? That's rhetorical.
Your anger should be directed to Justin Brooks Verlander who single-handedly choked this World Series away. I called it before game 1 that if we lost game 1 because JV pitched horribly that we will not win the World Series. They slayed the dragon. They know not they can't lose.
Far from over If the Astros win today then they are fine Down to best of 3. Today is the series not yesterday
Now do the splits. 7.50 ERA career World Series. A handful of nothings including 2017 versus Boston, 2020 versus Oakland, and his last start in the ALCS. Pulled early before more damage could be done. If Verlander, is your bar... Backe could meet that.
So I could not watch any more after they scored their 7th run, How did Urquidy look? He will be on regular rest for game 7 and I like him.
Urquidy 3 shutout innings with 1 baserunner. He is the Brandon Backe of this era. Or the Horry of baseball. I trust him.
It's just unbelievable that John Smoltz kept asking over and over again what Lance was going to do and how bad of an idea it was. Then he did it and got hammered for it. Maldy and the Astros are supposed to be so smart about pitching. How is it possible they kept doing the same thing over and over with no adjustments? If Smoltz knew it the Phillies knew it.
Jose Urquidy career World Series: 3-0 1.23 ERA 5 G 14.2 IP .667 WHIP Mccullers: 1-1 7.50 ERA 3 G 12.0 IP 1.500 WHIP Verlander 0-6 6.07 ERA 43.0 IP 1.600 WHIP
Astros manager should be watching Smoltz on TV during the game. This man calls out everything and can give them tips
Lance has evolved (devolved) as a pitcher. Maybe its due to the injury he sustained that some said he needed surgery on... but he's exclusively a slider/changeup primarily with the occaisional sinker to change the speed of things, and a curveball that is only effective out of the zone. Its an ok arsenal enough if his command is on (which it absolutely was not yesterday). But he doesn't have the stuff at this point to get away with mistakes.
He tends to announce games from the standpoint of what he would do as a pitcher... and what he would be worried about regarding what a hitter is looking for (again, from the mindset of a pitcher). Not all pitchers possess the combination of stuff and command that Smoltz had. Telling LMJ he needs to throw more fastballs (and they need to be down in the zone or the corners) isn't necessarily a strategy... and has no insight on whether LMJ is even capable of doing so.
I have thought that Dusty was a buffoon all along. It is an awful conclusion to come to about another individual. I never expected to see him back in Houston this season let alone next. Before the play-offs I think about 1/3 of the people agreed that he would be non tendered after this season. Today that number has to be at least 2/3, maybe more. At some point Dusty must have figured it out himself. Since game one he has become exponentially worse with each passing day. There is no acceptable solution. Bringing it up is probably pointless and a little antagonistic toward anyone that still thinks highly of Dusty. I guess I am looking for someone to talk me down or to commiserate with me.
