Bull****. He's putting his personal feelings above the team. That's inexcusable. The Astros need to tell him to shut up or they need to start working on moving him out.

Hunter Pence was "enraged" the day that Patton was traded, but you didn't hear any public comments saying how he didn't want that steroid user Tejada here or anything like that. Probably because he's more professional than Berkman.

Not to mention the new guys... like Geoff Geary who in 2006 was 7-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 91 IP for the Phillies and Oscar Villarreal who in '06 was 9-1 with a 3.61 ERA in 92 IP for the Braves.

What the hell is wrong with Lance? Somebody needs to call him a say "If you don't want to be here, waive your no trade clause." Everything he is saying is just hurting the team - like gossiping in high school or something.

Call the Giants - get some young starting pitching if little Lance's feelings are hurt beyond repair by the shaking up of this mediocre team.

Already missing Biggio and Bagwell :(

That wasn't a fist pump. It was him screaming, "DAMNIT! ANOTHER HR? I SUCK!"

Or Pence is a rookie and knows his place. At the least, Berkman is a vet and an All-Star. He's earned the right to speak his mind, even if it's Billy Wagner-esqe.

MySpace. :) Granted, I don't know if he was enraged about that or not.

So, at what point is it OK for a player to put his personal feelings above what's best for the organization?

Throw in Loretta and they'd have an all-Astros IF! And Berkman's little feelings wouldn't be as hurt.

What did he say? If he's saying the team missed him, that's one thing I would agree with. Springer was most important as being like a captain of the bullpen, lots of people agree that letting him go probably contributed to the problems they faced. Hopefully Brocail will take on that role this season.

is it possible the guy is trying to force a trade? it's one thing to piss and moan about them dealing a buddy of yours - bagwell did it all the time. its quite another to criticize current and soon-to-be current teammates; to criticize management for overhauling a roster that desperately needed it... in fact, i'll even grant him one - ONE - piss and moan session in which he unfurls some pent-up frustration and drops some hot sports opinion on a variety of topics.

but to then go on a talk show several days later and more less offer up a repeat performance?... something's not right here, and he's coming off horribly; just completely oblivious to reality; reality being the astros' record the past two years; his off year in '07; the team's future; even the shakey state of the team's racial make-up...

Anyone else notice that this all happens immediately in the following off-season after 'The most powerful player in baseball' Craig Biggio is no longer in the organization?

The team gets COMPLETELY blown up, which, frankly, was long overdue.

One wonders how much sooner all this might have happened had Biggio's influence not been present in the organization.

As for Lance, I like the guy, and you can't really fault him for giving out honest answers to questions - it's refreshing, in fact. However, it also seems pretty apparent that the players must subscribe to the 'I don't read the papers that much' or the 'I don't really concern myself much with what the fans think, since they don't really know anything' kind of mindset, and it is pretty obvious that most, if not all, of the players in last year's clubhouse, Lance included, really have no idea just how sickened and upset and frustrated we all were over the Astros' stinkalicious performance for the entire season.

It's incredibly tone-deaf to be complaining about the reshaping of a team that absolutely sucked. He should have been applauding it. The fact that he said what he said indicates that players are far more out of touch than we have ever been led to believe.
