We don't need a PG as much as we need another playmaker. LMA and Love can both initiate the offense. Also, we would still have our MLE for another point guard. If we can get one of those guys, we will go all in for this coming season.
Llull is the key there. If Smith resigns for 2 1/2 mil, the MLE is still available for Llull(or I suppose someone else). And then they could still match whatever offer Bev gets and have him as the backup PG. The question I have aside from PG is who they get to replace Ariza since he'd presumably be part of any deal for Aldridge or Love.
I would do that in a heart beat. Great centers make clutch free-throws, not sit on the bench to not get fouls.

How sweet would it be to get LMA and still keeping Dwight? Dwight's not being traded. If we get LMA, it's because LMA wants to be here and has told Portland to S&T to Houston or otherwise he's signing with SA, DAL or LA. That S&T would probably have to include Ariza unfortunately to make the money work. (opinion)
just because a trade works doesn't mean that will get done...you have to think about both sides...why would Port give up a franchise cornerstone for role players? If something similar would go down involving picks, we would not be getting any picks back (unless it is forced by NBA cant trade consecutive picks rule) THey will probably want us to keep TJones and take DMo instead, and throw in Capela as well....or they will go look somewhere else. As far as Love is concerned, I just can't see him leaving Cleveland...they gave up a lot to get him...including last year's rookie of the year.
I think we have the potential to make a strong case to Portland in a S&T, but I think the key would be somehow flipping Ariza for an expiring/non-guaranteed contract and a first round pick. I'm inclined to believe that if they are trading LA, they are likely rebuilding and Ariza wouldn't be of much value. I don't think the 18th pick would be included directly for LA because they are going to want time to field offers, but if **** hit the fan tonight and we trade the 18th and Ariza, we'll know something is up (aka strong intel that he wants to come here). D-Mo or Jones + Capela + expiring contract from Ariza trade + pick from Ariza trade + Rockets future first + K.Pap Would be enticing for a team that may lose him for nothing. As usual I think it's up to the player to say he wants to be here for it to happen, though.
