They didn't and it has costed us games. Most notably the Patriots and Seahawks game from 2017. 3rd and short to seal the game? Miller up the middle of course.
I don't think RB or WR was a *need* at the draft. But your point about the OL is spot-on. I still think overpaying - well, any position is a recipe for disaster in a league with such a hard cap. But their lack of urgency along the offensive line - be it with the coach, free agency, the draft... It's a fire-able offense (and may very well be the reason Gaine is gone?)
It would add more to the valuation. You actually make more by making the playoffs and losing in the 1st rd than making the SB because of the overhead/contracts etc...
Man that sucks for Lamar, wish him well... Well the bright side for BOB is he knows he can run ANYONE into a wall of blockers up the middle on first down so there’s that!
A top 10 valuation of all sports franchises in the world and the second most cap space should be all of the evidence you need.
Signing a back today would be knee jerk. What if they sign a guy today and then LeSean McCoy gets cut on Saturday? They miss out on the possibility of having Duke split carries with McCoy with Crockett in goal line situations of course. Running back is not an emergency issue, which is funny you mention Kalil because left tackle along with secondary are glaring, glaring issues. The rb position will be fine
Bet BOB's got this on repeat in his car, sobbing silently to himself - I'm afraid that BOB will try to turn Duke Johnson into a bell cow so that he is overworked and breaks down, too.
That is not standard operating procedure, though. They have routinely spent money. They haven't always spent that money wisely - but, again: dumb does not = cheap. They are not cheap.
See The Rundown: Assessing the Texans Runningbacks + Who Potentially Fits the Group by Patrick D. Starr Houston Texans need help at running back. A closer look at the group and potential fits on who could help for 2019. Duke Johnson is the favorite to take over the lead back roles heading to week one. That leaves a depth chart with limited experience in NFL games running the football with veteran and special teams ace Taiwan Jones. Josh Ferguson, second-year back Buddy Howell, Jr., and rookies Damarea Crockett and Karan Higdon Jr. When asked if Johnson would be the primary back for the season, O'Brien would not commit to that idea just yet. "I think it's a package deal," O'Brien continued on the running back group. "It is kind of early to talk about that to nail that down right now." O'Brien continued on the thinking of the runningback group, "Obviously, Duke would be in there, Taiwan has had a good camp. I think our backfield situation is actually with depth is actually decent." Texans Current Running Back Group The Texans fill their roster depth heading into the season with their current group, but that would take a dangerous leap of faith from Bill O'Brien. There is Duke Johnson who will slide as the potential lead back for the season. There is potential offensive output for Johnson in the offensive, but there are caveats with him at this point. JOhnosn just returned last week from a hamstring injury and will get no time in-game situations with the offense. When week one arrives, it will be the first time he has been in the offense, but they will have to depend on him being an experienced NFL back to get them through the start of the season. Taiwan Jones has 44 career rushing attempts in 80 regular-season games over eight seasons in the NFL. His last attempt came in 2016 which does not bode well for an offense looking for a difference-maker for the offense. There was talking up from O'Brien on Josh Ferguson before OTAs arrived on how well he fits into the offense. That has not come to fruition as camp and preseason and progressed. Buddy Howell Jr. has not received the opportunity of running the football outside of some late work against the Detroit Lions. That chance came after a back in front of him went down with an injury. Overall, he has been a non-factor in the big picture of the running back group. The two rookies offer the most hope to the position, and that is a good sign. Damarea Crockett appears to have solidified his roster spot with a strong camp and preseason performance. While Karan Higdon Jr.'s chances improved with the injury to Miller and he too has shown to run with a purpose. Special teams no doubt plays into the discussion of and if it is returning kicks or covering them. Any back on the game-day roster outside of Johnson will have to help on special teams.
Is there a FA RB we could pick up named...so we can roll with Duke Higdon Crockett and Tubbs? The Shadiest Law Firm ever?
Sell the team, kill themselves. There, now you’re caught up until the next thread complaining that they sold to the wrong buyer and jumped off a building instead of hanging themselves.
You didn't prove anything. You cited a current example that is in no way reflective of the how the team has been routinely managed. It would be like me... saying Alex Bregman wasn't very good and citing a current slump as evidence. The Texans have never operated cheaply. That is not the issue.
