Did you not read my second post. The phenom was in jest... a response to the video about the other kid. He is quick in general. It is a highlight video...it's funny to see my brother cross over some chubby kid...remember Marbury doing that to Yao...not impressive but rather entertaining. It was a clean block in opinion and it was called a foul in the game. How can he be anything but good for his age? He's been scouted by HS coaches, what else does so local boy have to do? He is an "11 year old phenom," which indicates the that he is incredible for his age group... like a HS stand out in the papers is good compared to HS players. It is relative. I didn't put Basketball phenom in general...that would imply good compared to everyone.
Now I need to know... why criticize or downplay a family member of a fellow clutchfan? Especially one so young? Does it make you feel better? Did you feel compelled to say..."hmmm, I know you are proud of your brother and are sharing this video with us but man I am compelled to tell you he is only good for his age...which of course was all you were trying to say." Nice going chump.

When you put "phenom" in a thread title, you assume the position that what it is is something that's better than 98% of what everyone else can do. And quite frankly, like someone else posted, the "competition" that he played against doesn't even look like fair competition. In fact, most of those kids look like they just play for the fun of it while your brother is trying to do all of them in.

And he IS good for his age. That's something I stated in my post. But to make it out like he's something extraordinary (aka "phenom") is a stretch.

Dude, if you're going to post a video on the internet, get ready to be criticized, regardless of relation or age.

To me it was obvious the "phenom" was stated in jest, based on the other thread.

The kid looks good for his age - no point arguing back and forth about it.

He's pretty good for his age but there's tons of other kids out there his age that are just as good as him.

NBA prospect? highly unlikely. High school JV team? Very possible. High school Varsity? doubtful unless he can eventually grow to be 6'+ but how many vietnamese 6 footers do you see around?

I think he'll grow to be one of the "good" players among his group of friends when they play pick up ball. Most likely as the "sick point guard". Probably will play intramural sports in college as well.

highschool varsity IS a possibility, coaches crave more about quickness and skill level over height and height is only just a bonus in highschool. college ball and nba is a whole different story

No offense, any high school coaches checking out 11 year olds are r****ds. Any college coaches checking out junior high games are r****ds too for that matter.

oh c'mon guys....whats with the negativity!?

This kid has shown some really good handles and range, and we should admire him for that. Yeah its true that he's most likely going to be too short, but if he has that kinda handle when he's so short, he's gonna keep it when he's in high skol. And its not that tough to make a high skol varsity team. It's true making it to college is tough, but how can you doubt high skol?

Hopefully they'll make a professional league which is restricted by age-group than your cousin could kill it professionally.

    SNAP.

Brag about someone when they're doing this at a State or National tournament.

Speaking of which - i saw a guy nail a shot from half court with just his regular shooting motion.
I mean of course it wasn't in a game - or there was any pressure on him whatsoever.
But i think they're bringing out NBA scouts because he's got deep shooting ability. For his age group i think he's the best shooter in the state.

well there was a post around here awhile back that this 8th grader already got a scholarship to ucla i believe. so college coaches cant be too dumb to check out middle school kids if their hype is that huge, even highschool coaches wanted that kid to go to their schools.

I have coached youth basketball (ages ranging from 8-18) for the last 12 years and I have had several kids go on to play college ball. The kid is good but the competition he was playing against wasn't at a very high skill level. This past year I had a kid that was 12 old and already 6 feet tall with similar ballhandling skills and a much better shooter. There are a lot of good players at that age, the question is will they work hard enough so the competition doesn't catch up to them.

If he starts playing AAU with that loose dribble, he's going to get stripped a lot. He also needs to be coached on how to get others involved.

I wish the kid the best of luck.

Getting the early lesson how the real world is ;)

Anyone junior high and younger should be kinda coddled along. Young athletes arent that dumb, they kinda know if they're good enough or not.. High "skol" and up, rip into em.
