b/c when that play doesn't work (force-feed yao), they don't have a backup play. watch every 4th quarter. when yao is in the game, we run one single play. like i said, that's a fine play to have, but don't run it every damn time. mix it up. make the game unpredictable. keep the defense guessing.
just wondering if anybody could tell me what the pair of double technicals were for? i like knowing how fighting starts
A lot of people on this board underestimate how good other players are and the love to defend till death the travails of the Rockets. Gasol didn't have any playoff success in Memphis but that fact is he is a legitimate 20/10 player who has exceptional passing ability and great mobility, and being on a great team as a sidekick to Bryant has made the Lakers an elite team, even if the Lakers had Bynum healthy and had not made the trade, I doubt they would have went as far as they went.
I like gasol but yao is just a better scorer and gets far more double teams, Yao is the focus of the defense and he still kills other teams.
it's harder to double gasol b/c he can simply go out to the perimeter and knock down those mid-range Js but running the pick and pop. or running the pick and roll and roll to the basket with ease. yao can't do that. he's always in the low post and thus an easy targets for double teams. pau is putting up 18.1 ppg on 56% shooting this year. and he's shooting 60% for this month.
Agreed. Yao is a better #1 man but he is incapable of being an effective and efficient part of a "supporting cast." You can run 5-6 plays a game for Gasol and he can still give you 20/10 because of his mobility and all-around skills. If you run 5-6 plays for Yao he probably ends up with 12/5. On the other hand, if Gasol faced the defenses Yao does every single night he wouldn't be anywhere near as potent as Yao is on the scoreboard. Apples and oranges I guess.
Gasol doesn't need the ball as much to be effective either. Kobe jacked up 10-29 shots and yet Gasol still seemed like he contributed a lot. With Yao it seems like if his offensive isn't going, he's pretty much a liability at times.
getting double team doesn't mean that he is better. it means that Yao can be nullified by a D team. D Teaming Gasol is equivalent to committing suicide. Gasol has deftly handle the D team, finding the open teammate for an open shot. Yao, on the other hand, gets all-freak out when he get D team. as soon as the D Team shows up, he quickly pass the ball away, usually the teammates closest to him--not the open man.
Exactly! I hate this argument that some fans always use. You don't get any awards for being the most doubled in the NBA. It's easy to double a big slow guy compared to a quicker guy like Gasol. It's more effective to double Yao than it is to double Gasol.
wtf are you talking out lol 1. the reason they double yao more is because yao will almost ALWAYS murder his defender if he gets single coverage. Not because he is apparently easy to double. Doubling always gives up outside shots and no teams thinks doubling just for sake of doubling is a good idea 2. of course you pass to the closest guy first, have you ever played bball? you don't try cross court pass in traffic. That's why yao passes out and the guy who received the pass make an EXTRA pass to the open man for the shot. I can't believe you don't know this ****, it's really basic basketball
that's just load of crap, i dont see how doubling yao is different from doubling gasol. I ve never seen Gasol dribbling out of a double team before. He does what every big man does, pass out of the double team to give his teammates an open shot after swinging the ball around. and you do get the award for being the most doubled guy, the award is your teammates get tons of open shots. That's why dominant big men like shaq, duncan, yao are highly valued because THEY GET OPEN SHOTS FOR THEIR TEAMMATES.
Are you guys serious? First, Yao gets doubled a lot more and still scores more, rebounds more and blocks more tnan Gasol. Second, if you get doubled, your teammates get open. So give me two players. Player A gets doubled constantly and Player B doesn't. If both have the same production, I'd take Player A any day. Now if Player A actually has better numbers...it's a no-brainer.
