The Laker fans should respond the the "Stay" Dwight Banner with "Leave" with D'antoni's face on it. Dude sucks. Lakers need to take the loss, let D'antoni go, and bring in a credible coach.
I feel like Dwight is really taking the blame for what has been a season full of follies by the Lakers. From the sudden firing of Mike Brown to the poor handling of choosing the next coach, to the poor choice in the next coach(let's face it - this is NOT a D'Antoni roster), the short sighted signing of aging players, throwing away all their draft picks, forcing Gasol to the bench, etc - they just look short sided and desperate. In short they run the team like a spoiled rich kid who is used to throwing a lot of money at something to get what they want....but the story is how Dwight weaseled his way out of LA - not that LA is becoming Knicks West coast(by the hands of another spoiled rich kid made owner by their father).
Why would they trade anybody? They still have capable NBA players, and remember that they will have cap space (Gasol, Kobe's contracts end) to sign a star in the offseason. They are still the LAKERS
I would think D'Antoni would rather play Gasol at C and have a stretch 4. Like Jamison a few years ago.
Here's Jimmy's plan... Build around MDA. Get Lebron to join his plan. Let the new dynasty begin. Brilliant!
So when they say that Dwight left them high and dry...they really do have a point(giggle...) 1. They mortgaged the 2nd best center in the game to acquire the best center in the game via trade. Dwight was the proverbial fish when he landed in LA...loved the place, loved having to rehab in LA, and loved being able to "live the life" 2. They mortgaged their future in hopes to be able to get a HOF PG in Steve Nash, giving picks in 2015, and 2017. 3. Even though age was a question, they on paper were the closest to compete against the Thunder, Heat: Dwight, Pau, Kobe, Artest, and Nash. 4. Disaster struck as the Lakers started pathetically during the preseason, and into the first 5 games of the regular season. They lost Nash to a bone fracture. 5. The Lakers mgmt had PJackson on speed dial(and was available to coach), but chose to call one Mike DAntoni. The Lakers muddled the rest of the season in mediocrity. Were in danger of not making the playoffs, and thru herculean efforts by Kobe Bryant got them in position to do so. Then disaster struck again, as Kobe Bryant goes out for the season. 6. Gets swept in the first round of the playoffs to the WCF champs: The Spurs 7. Courtship begins, and Morey became the Hot chick that everyone fell in love with. Dwight noticed, and July 5th 2013 happened. 8. The Lakers now, have no SG(Kobe is not coming back till Late December at the earliest), no center, and an aging PF, and a old PG. They dont have a bench(even Earl Clark left them). They are way behind in FA, and most of the serviceable players have chose other options. I dont think Bynum comes back either. 9. The Lakers desperately needs to land Wiggins, but even then, they will be handy capped to build around him. To think that Lebron is just gonna hop on over to LAL is ludicrous. Lebron would rather be in Cleveland. LA will be attractive, once they have a plan for their future. Their fans dont need to rip Dwight for their mgmt's ineptness. 10. The Lakers and their franchise should be rightfully crushed, as the owners, GM, mgmt, Kobe, players, and fans were kicked in their collective nutz...This one will hurt and will hurt for a very long time. Oh and by the way that banner ad on the Staples center just looks gaudy... GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
