I can't believe how many people care about a meaningless streak compared to something that may benefit the Rockets in the final standings. As we saw last season, one game can make a huge difference in the end. Go Celtics, regardless of whether the streak is still alive when they play the Lakers.
I'd rather they don't beat our streak but whatever. I doubt we're going to come in first anyways. Also, the Lakers won't win it this season unless they play the Cavs (meaning Cavs beat Celtics, which I think is very possible). Once again, they will choke in the finals against that Celtics defense. I can guarantee that. Any Lakers fan is sadly mistaken if they think they have a hope of beating the Celtics. Cavs/Lakers would be a good finals series, but I don't know if the Lakers will get to the finals, if you get what i'm saying.
As long as the Rockets take care of business and beat the Celtics when they come in January, it doesn't matter what they get their streak to. The Lakers are in a bit of a funk, and I'd like them to stay that way. I agree -- Go Celtics.
I'm with you, the Standings is way more important than a streak that isn't even number 1 in the record book.
Actually i'd be down for the Lakers to lose on Christmas day. I hope they get picked apart by the Celtics. Streak or not. It will probably end in GS the night after, and if it doesn't, they'll tie our streak (no way the Kings beat them) but they'll probably lose in Portland after that. So they'll match our streak, but won't one-up it.
For those who want the Lakers to beat the Celtics, I have a question. Would you rather see the Lakers get the satisfaction of stopping the Celtics streak before it hits 22? Or would you rather see the Lakers humiliated by losing at home (+1), the Celtics extend past our streak (-1), and we get revenge in January by stopping their streak before they reach 33 wins (+1)? I think the second scenario would be much sweeter.
^ Too bad we'd get blown out on their home floor. Although i'll root for the Celtics on this one, people get this idea we can beat them in Boston...This team hasn't showed me anything to back that notion up. But maybe we can. The Cavs will be the first big test until then.
we prolly won't get the number 1 seed so as long as we're not number 8 i don't care abt the lakers being seeded number 1...i would rather our history be protected we can overcome the lakers being number one, but it would take too much for us to put together another streak like we did
Last year without T-mac we almost beat them in Boston. I think this team could beat them in Boston. Probably won't happen though.
If you had posted this thread a week ago, I would have said undoubtedly that I preferred a Lakers win. The reasoning for me was that I saw both teams as relatively equal, I didn't see us catching up to the Lakers in the standings, and most importantly, I wanted to preserve the streak. Now, I hope Boston blows them out by 30+. The Lakers suddenly look very mortal and I think a crushing defeat could send them into a tailspin. I want that team in turmoil and their confidence crushed. I think they can be overcome in the standings. Either way, I've been saying it since last season, this is far and away the weakest the western conference has been since I started following the NBA back in the early 90's. I'm not talking about the depth of quality, but rather that the 3 'elite' teams at the top are weaker than in any other era in recent history that I can remember. I think most people would classify LA, New Orleans, and Houston as the trio at the top, and all 3 look incredibly weak in comparison to some of the other great western teams we've seen in the past. Luckily for us, you only play against your current competition, regardless of how flawed you are in the eyes of history. I haven't seen anything that has impressed me much from the Rockets thus far, but we are good enough to take the conference. The Celtics are in a class of their own however.
WTF? what make you so sure we wont get number 1? right now we're 3.5 back from LA and they're loosing. If we keep winning and LA lost to the Cs we'll be within reach. LA have been camping at the Staples Center and now their schedule is starting to even out and they start loosing. I'll say it again so the non-believers can understand IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET 1ST PLACE IN THE WEST.
Uh passing our 22nd wins doesn't mean anything. We're in 2nd place, and that's just as good as 3rd place in terms of records. I'd rather the Celts hand the beatdown on the Lakers. Any loss to them is one less game we have to catch up as the number 1 seed. Besides, more wins to the Celts makes them more confident and hopefully cause them to implode. Hopefully KG will do his "defense like a dog" to the max, PP will get more cocky and Allen starts getting resentful at being termed the least of the Big 3. Let them have the 2nd most wins in a season...so long as we win the most games in the playoffs.
You convinced me. I hate that team that took our streak away last year will match our streak but I want the Lakers to be exposed more and for the Rockets to have the opportunity to return the favor to the Celtics. I want your second scenario to be my Christmas present from Santa.
I prefer that the Celtics crushed the Lakers, and the next day the lose against Golden State or against Portland.
