There's a thread many years ago about decent NBA local announcers. There's also a thread about the terrible ones. There are a lot more terrible ones than good ones, but I remember the Lakers generally being good, as in not always complaining about the refs, complementing other teams, and criticizing their own teams. They're obviously biased, but their usually on the better end of the spectrum. And the Spurs announcers are known as one of the most biased.
Stu Lantz is good but I can not stand Joel Meyers. He raises his voice on every made Lakers shot as if he's on pins and needles. "Nice shot by KOBE!" "Pau with the nice MOVE!"
Don't like either team. Spurs are playing better but Rockets should've beaten them the first time they played this year missed those two fts that would have sealed the game for the Rockets.
Also live in SA. What gets me is the general tone of whininess in Sean Elliot's voice. Seems like he complains even when the opponents make mistakes. Unbearable.
I never liked Kobe as a man, but I respected his skills and his will to win. After the postgame interview I just heard, I have gained more respect for him as a man. Int: In hindsight, do you think it was a good idea to take over the game the way you did? KB: "Nope." Int: Why, because your shot wasn't falling? KB: "Yup." That sort of honest reflection and self-evaluation is so refreshing. His first response was perfect. Maybe the second answer could have been addressed more deeply, as in it wasn't a matter of the shot not falling but rather his superstar ego tricking him into being a ballhog and taking 27 shots. However, under the circumstances and coming from Kobe it was still a pretty good answer and I find him a little less loathesome now.
They have trouble containing any pick and roll because the bigs don't show, Artest and the point guards are too slow, and Kobe isn't even bother defending that play right now. Teams are getting into the paint at will.
In Kobe's settlement the defense went out of their way to ensure that the victim would not drop the accusation of rape. The psychological reasoning for rape, the need to exert force/power (not lust for sex) is another thing to consider. Kobe settled. He was never proven innocent. Anyways, this is the Spurs team I expected to see last year. Even when they sucked last year I stuck by them, I knew they had this in them. Just need to maintain their health.
I didn't watch the game, but looking at the box score, I can't believe the Lakers lost. Kobe with 27 shot attempts and Pau with 8 sure looks like a recipe for Lakers success.
Did Kobe just called Fisher "the Barack Obama of basketball"? Good to see the Lakers getting blown out three games in a roll.
