Lakers name Magic Johnson President of Basketball Operations

    I feel the same. I CAN'T say that Magic is CERTAIN failure. His weaknesses in technical knowledge and negotiations might not be great. His positives in people skills / visibility / management style might be all thats required.

    It depends on their goal. If they want to attract ESTABLISHED players in league, its Magic over Buss Bro. Magic gives off the feel that he's gonna take care of his people, that he's got the city in his hand, and that he's engaged in what he does. Phil Jackson in his major market feels like he's just there for the check. If its about the nuts & bolts machinations, like scouting, drafting, contracts, personnel fit, etc ... Thats where there's major questions. It all depends how committed Magic is and who he surrounds himself with. But its not like he's never been involved in business activity.

    But his hire doesnt seem like a long term "Trust the Process" vision. Even Sam Hinkie was relieved from an obvious long rebuild. Like Clutch said about overpaying for Carmelo, thats looks a more probable approach than looking for next Porzingis.
