So the Rockets I guess had their meeting with Capela this afternoon. Then left the meeting and asked for a meeting with the Lakers for leverage. Clearly the Capela camp did not like the terms Morey laid out.

They probably lowballed him because they know there's not many teams left with cap space. So Capela's camp went out to find a better offer and force the Rockets to match. Makes sense.

Yep, Rockets playing hardball here makes sense since there's likely not a real player out there for Capela.

EDIT: Bobby just beat me to it.

Lakers can screw the Rockets by signing Clint to $30million deal per year after PG13 resigned with OKC.

Oh man! Would love the Lakers offer him a contract while tying up their space, and the Rockets dragging it out till the end, and then matching it.

Please please please let this happen.

Jerks......can we SnT with Lakers if $25 mil or greater for Caps?

Pry an Ingram......they re-sign Julius Randle for us in SnT.......others? Give us Wagner

    We could still beat them.

I could be wrong, but I think the most Capela can make is about $25 million per year. I can't imagine any team offering him that. He's a very good role player, but he's not a max player.

Lot of ways to interpret this. Lakers truly interested in Capela having struck out on PG and perhaps Boogie while in holding pattern on Kawhi. Another way of looking at it is they are concerned that Rockets are still a player for Lebron, want to make Capela and offer to put pressure on us to match to cap us and eliminate us as competition for Lebron. Interesting either way and worth monitoring

That's what the contract starts at, with escalators it probably ends up averaging $30M over the life of the contract. If he really does sign for the max, I would the Rockets SnT for Julius and another asset.

    Dang it.....
Clint stay away from L.A.! They are not the same team when Jerry West was there.
Keep away from that evil Franchise!

He really isn’t worth anything near max money!!Truth be told he is a glorified role player with the perfect teammates to elevate his game. I’d let him walk if any team wanted him that bad. He ain’t worth all that!!

20% of the cap is his max … the cap is $101m meaning his max is $25.2m in the first year .
