Everyone knows the Lakers make a gazillion dollars in its TV deal, and now that they are the Phoenix Suns 2.0, even more people will be tuned in.

Plus MDA is cheaper. Jim Buss and Phil Jackson don't get along, so now ownership doesn't have to give up equity nor cash for Phil Jackson.

Championships allowed them to get that TV deal. Scoring a ton of points won't get more fans to tune in. Winning will.

You say its about tv ratings, yet mostly talk about saving money?

The Lakers are about winning rings. That gets them everything else.
