Yeah, our bench is the one who had Kobe flying off of Yao's pick into Tmac for the foul. Our bench is the one who allowed Juwon to recognize that Yao was open for that awesome pass for an easy layup. Our bench is what forced Kobe to move his pivot, not Battier's excellent defense or Yao running at him...

Give me a damn break. The bench can stand up and cheer all they want, but that's not what wins the games. That's all I'm arguing.

It's not what win games but its an expression of desire, focus, intensity, and enthusiasm...The desire to win. This team clearly has it.

You obviously don't have to be a cheer leader on the bench to have all of those things, but it really shouldn't annoy you that our team does this.

That's what I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about our guys. We root for each other, and we don't let egos and personal goals get in the way of winning. :D

I like the team cohesion- support. Hakeem used to do it as a young plaayer in the playoffs in 1986. Basketball is a team sport and it is fun......

    Go Rockets!!!!

Have you ever played organized sports in a remote locale? When you go to a different place and it's only you and your team and/or friends, it really is a motivator when you do something that gets your 'entourage' psyched. Maybe I'm immature or mentally weak, but I find it helps me get even more focused. I'll be even w/ millions of dollars and at the top of your profession, it still helps when you see someone on your side. When we meet Utah/Phoenix/Dallas/SA in the playoffs on their court, it's going to be 12 vs 20,000, and I'd like to see our teammates showing their unity.

The LA Kobies obviously don't have it. During the game their bench looked like they were in the doctor's waiting room for their vasectomy appointment.

our bench just recently started doing this...it really shows how close this group is and how dedicated this team is to winning. Any type of loss is not acceptable..heck some blowout wins we have had aren't acceptable (i.e. 19 pt win against Milwuakee where JVG was still irate after the game.) This is the best and most cohesive Rockets team since the championship runs...this will be one special post season run we'll put together...

I'm shocked. I think you are the ONLY one that thinks this way. A basketball game is no boardroom meeting. With the same line of logic, you must despise football, b/c they celebrate like there's no tomorrow for everything they do.

If I was on the team, I would love it if my teammates were so enthusiastic about what I can bring to the team - it motivates the players to play harder.

I love how the Bench stands up and cheers, they have to do that. So that there is some excitement to cheer on the team. The arena is so dead most of the time....and when one the road. It's needed.

    Go Rockets!

    The team chemistry ROCKS.

I love the show of enthusiasm from the bench. Who cares what other fans/teams think? And  at the notion that it is disingenuous .

Let me settle this now so people stop ragging on redefined.

He's a Mavs fan. Case closed.

Yeah, JVG is just too stubborn and hard on his players. On the other hand, Phil has a more mental approach that is kinder, gentler and more praise oriented. In fact, PJ is so "kind" he canceled a day off and went ballistic on the Lakers after the Memphis loss. Like somebody said in another thread, the Lakers are tanking  games to try and get Phoenix in the opening round. Yeah right!

lol you guys remember t-mac with the golf clap in the clipper game? I think the bench is just trying to get a workout getting up and down all the time because they know JVG won't play them.

    redefined,

Do you really have to ask yourself why these guys would want to stand up and (genuinely) cheer for their teammates? If you do, you're not that bright, because the answer is simple.

How many rings do Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes, Rafer Alston, Juwan Howard, Dikembe Mutombo, John Lucas III, Luther Head, Kirk Snyder, Jake Tsakalidis, Steve Novak, and Vasillis Spanoulis have between them?

    Yeah, that would be zero.

How many teams have those guys been on that are better than this one?

Well, Dikembe went to the Finals a couple of times (only to lose of course). I guess there's that. Juwan Howard has never made it out of the second round and has mostly been on Lottery teams. Tsakalidis has never been past the first round. Luther Head and John Lucas have never been to the playoffs at all. Kirk Snyder has never even been on a winning team. Vasillis and Steve are rookies. As for the starters, Rafer made it past the second round one time, as an 8 minute per game backup. Yao, and Tracy lack a single second round appearance between them. Shane has never won a single playoff game. Chuck has never played in one.

This is the best Rockets team we've seen in a decade, and that's considering that Yao missed 30+ games. It's also the best team that most of these guys have ever been a part of. For the young guys that's exciting for obvious reasons. For the older players like Dikembe and Juwan, it might be their last chance to be a member of a championship team.

These guys are special. They're a group of have-nots, and do-gooders. They are one of the few teams that hasn't seemed to forget why they picked up a basketball so long ago. They know that winning a ring would be a first for every last person on their bench, and they know that it will take an effort from every last one of them for every minute of every game if they want that to happen.

They've been waiting for something like this their whole lives and now you would rather they sit on their hands than encourage each other. I can't even begin to understand why.

These players aren't babies and they know how to play basketball. This late in the season, yes, that's the human thing to do. JVG goes crazy after we beat a team by 20+ points because he wasn't satisfied with how his team played. That's BS man. How are the players supposed to respond

And yes, I am a Mavs fan, but what does that have to do with anything. Mavs have played just as many exciting games this week alone than the Rockets have all season. I want Rockets to win but not at the expense of amusing myself to death. And Rockets forcing me to wear red to the games isn't helping the situation either. It's a joke and nothing more :p

who ever said cheering wins games?

it gives the players some type of emotion when they might look lifeless out there...sometimes it can be a momentum change or continue the momentum.

it works better on the road when you have 20k fans cheering against you vs. the 7 on the bench. me against the world attitude.

    your argument has no basis

how do you show emotion during a game?

i don't care that other teams' fans don't like the fact the Rockets root for each other with passion. i don't care at all. i care that the Rockets seem to have found some chemistry and an identity. the fans in visiting courts sitting behind them can kiss my pasty white Irish butt.

Mavs = No heart. Mavs fans enjoys heartless basketball. That's what it has to do with it. I'd rather have a good team like the Rockets that, by all accounts, are good friends and encourage each other through thick and thin, on and off the court than to have a well-oiled machine of a team like the Mavs. Whats the fun in winning every regular season game? I refuse to comment on that flopping caveman and his constantly whinning owner. :p
