Great move for the wiz. Not only is Butler a better player than Kwame at this point(and probly forever), but I doubt the Wiz would've matched a full MLE offer for Kwame.

I so wish we coulda gotten Butler. Devan wouldn't even be that bad either, though I have no idea what his contract looks like(think it's big), and I don't remember how good he is at guarding 2s.

Great move for Wizards. They get Butler for nothing since Kwame had no chance of staying.

all i have to say is that phil jackson seriously has to be reconsidering this job. they draft a 17 year old kid with very little prospect of actually becoming more than desagana diop, and trade a very good perimeter scorer and defender for one of the biggest busts in recent history. at least we know that the rox don't have to compete with the lakers for a playoff spot for the next 3 years.

If Kwame didn't like Eddie Jordan's Princeton-style offense, he's gonna hate Phil's Triangle.

But apart from him being a head-case... what exactly does Kwame Brown do well? He's never averaged 2 blocks/game. He has no post-moves. He hasn't improved since 2001.

What, aside from shooting, can he do? He's useless!

To be young and dumb!

    Nope

Vlade Divac is retiring. This is what he told HoopsHype.com writer Nebojsa Petrovaki at his camp in Redondo Beach. "Injury is not the one that would jeopardize my everyday life, but after four or five practices, my back just starts to hurt and I need to rest," Divac said. "The doctors told me that my chances of full recovery are about 50-50 and that this injury is much more serious than the one I had in 1994. It seems that I have a hole in my spine, which would never allow me to play at my top level anymore. That is why I think it is time for me to retire." HoopsHype.com

Well, Phil also doesn't like small guards (Atkins), and wants Odom as a 3 (like Quitten)- which means Butler would be coming off the bench anyway.

Kobe-Odom-Brown could be a really good 2-3-4 trio. Mihm will take most of the minutes at center, and they've still got Medvedenko and their lotto pick, Bynum, even if Divac doesn't come back. I don't see anything resembling a PG on their roster right now - they still have their MLE to go after one, so Daniels would make a ton of sense (and make this sign and trade make sense). Even if not, they could easily replace Atkins with a guy like Stoudamire in free agency (or Van Exel, among others).

I love this trade because the Lakers lose a productive player and get a complete loser in return. Brown simply doesn't have the psychological makeup to be successful in the NBA, as was proven this year. If he doesn't crater completely, he will show flashes of ability but he will never be a consistent performer in this league.

I love the Lakers' offseason so far. They drafted a 17 year old who won't contribute much for at least a couple of years and they give away Caron Butler for a guy who will break their hearts and wear out his welcome.
