Man sorry to hear that VDP.. Try not to stress over it there isn't anything you can do about, but put your energy into moving forward..
Job hunting can be really painful and a test for your patience at this time when the economy is still down. Wish you good luck!
Sorry to hear that, man. Did you get any severance? Best to swallow your pride and file for unemployment ASAP. It's not a handout, you've earned it. There were about 100 layoffs at my company yesterday. They were in another division, but I knew a lot of people affected. They had cops here to maintain order and I even saw a channel 11 news truck. Very un-nerving. Keep your head up. EDIT: It was 127 people. http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2009/06/22/daily22.html
Thanks guys. No severance. I got paid through the end of the month. Whats that 6 more days? Worst part is I left 20 PTO days on the table because I was busting my but all year trying to get my job done and couldn't take any time off. If I would have known this was going to happen I would have taken those 20 days and spent them with my kids and looking for a job. I'd help out if they'd pay me for those but since they didn't I'm guessing they aren't required to by law.
They have to pay you for vacation days. I'm pretty sure they don't have to pay you for sick/personal days.
Makes me glad to be in a fairly recession proof job. I even seem to be in higher demand as tax law keeps changing.
Sorry to hear that... just apply for unemployment and enjoy time with your kids for now. my guy got put on a standby status (3 months of no pay) and he is scheduled to return to work in sept but that is only if the project will kick off and if not, then he's laid off for good. as long he is eligible for unemployment right now, we're gonna be okay. eh.
makes me realize i shouldn't dislike my job too much right now.. just gotta shut up and do it, and think about another career or school a little later and sorry to hear it voodoo. good luck to ya in your search.. use clutchfans help if possible!
I hear you. There are days where I struggle not to get up and walk out. Good luck, VDP. Take a few days to clear your head and get things done around the house if necessary. Start fresh on Monday.
Definitely. I was so frustrated yesterday, and I was dreaming about the day I get to leave the corporate world. I got up this morning and I told myself, "You are so lucky to even have a job right now. Just put on a smile and go to work." My company had around 45 employees last year. When I started early last month, there was 13. Now there's 8, including me. I'm happy with my 12 bucks an hour, because the people who made more than that are no longer here. Good luck VooDooPope. I'm hoping you can find another job quickly.
