For those of you jaded with THC, watch the international version if it's in your package instead. That has the good/actual history programs.
i actually watched this on the history channel - i dont know if i agree w/ the theory, but i found it pretty interesting. im interested in ancient/lost civilizations and aztec/mayan mythology so this was right up my alley.
Aren't you forgetting about the Hyperdrive Propulsion System. Just because we haven't figured it out yet, doesn't mean someone else hasn't.
I saw this on the history channel when it aired a month or two ago. I found it fascinating personally I dont necessarily believe its true but I have an open mind about it. There are some things that are hard to explain even in this day and factor in some of these buildings and designs being constructed hundreds/thousand years ago its pretty crazy. Ok am I missing something here I can understand it being the ToyCen Files but how is Lady_Di connected with this?
I had some time to kill and watched the whole thing. Its entertaining and I myself won't completely rule out the possibility of alien visitations in the distant past I found this show to be very unconvincing. What bothered me was how the proponents automatically jump to the alien visitation explanation and completely ignore other more plausible explanations. Also how Danieken first says he is clear that he is speculating and then comes back and says that Pakal is absolute proof that aliens visited the ancient Mayans. Another thing that bothered me is that while the show did bring on skeptics they did address where the proponents were flat out wrong. For example saying that Enoch commissioned the building of the Great Pyramid when it says on it that Khufu did. Also when they say that Tiwanaku was 17,000 years old when it has been dated to around 400 AD. Also the one thing that has always bothered me about these ancient alien ideas is that while yes we see ancient people doing some pretty astounding things that are hard to explain if aliens gave them the technology why the heck didn't they give them something as basic as a wheel and shaft or pulleys? Technologies in these ideas almost always seem to jump from talking about stone age or bronze age tech to tech far beyond our moder cababilities ignoring the vast range of things in between. Like a lot of fringe things out there most of the ancient alien ideas seem to be based on a very selective reading of the evidence with a whole lot of speculation thrown on top.
The history channel's best programming is basically WWII. It seems heavily geared towards that on actual historical programs. Their best recent series imo is the Underground Cities or something like that. Basically going to old cities and going underground to see what they were like in their old days. other than that, agree that the doomsday stuff is pretty weak. another good one is the how the earth was made.
im pretty sure i saw this last summer or at least early fall. ive seen it on a few times since i initially saw it. exactly how i feel - aside from the alien theory, its still got alot of interesting info as far as ancient civilizations and advanced technology - these primitive people were able to accomplish things that we still cant do w/ all the advancements we have. i read a book a few years ago called 'fingerprints of the gods', which i would recommend to others interested in this stuff. ancient egypt and latin america. the 'atlantean' theory seems more plausible to me than aliens - the idea that there was this powerful, technologically advanced civilization going back further than historical records currently show (5k years +) - a society that collapsed for some reason and the survivors came to the americas (mayans) and north africa (egypt) - the creation myths in latin america talk about white men w/ long beards and flowing robes coming on 'floating towers' from the eastern sea. you find similar myths among pacific islanders too - these white bearded men taught them farming techniques, brought them the concept of law and order and civilization, taught them to sacrifice flowers and butterflies instead of people, ect. you find these same stories in peru w/ the incas too - these people came and stayed w/ them for a few years then disappeared. its a shame what happened to the library of alexandria and what the conquistadors did in latin america - they destroyed so much history - i hope there were some mayans or aztecs around that had some good hiding spots for codex's and other documents - maybe someday someone will stumble upon them in some cave? has anyone else heard of the piri reis map? cartographers in the 1500's (?) discovered this ancient map which showed the coast of antarctica in great detail, with mountain ranges and river valleys - modern technology shows that under this mile thick sheet of ice, antarctica's geography matches up accurately with it. wikipedia does a little poo-pooing of this theory though... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piri_Reis_map
also, the clairvoyant edgar cayce said that the atlanteans stored a bunch of records in the paw of the sphinx - although the egyptian government will not allowed them to excavate it, archeologists have indeed detected a large chamber in the paw that has never been excavated. interesting video, but it gets into atlantis at the 2:30 mark and the sphinx in particular at 4:30. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hVCAca2r1LM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hVCAca2r1LM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
hahahah, why is my moniker on the thread title? yes, i watched that show with my fiance...he's the weird one, not me. I don't really believe this stuff. The thread should be titled to Mr. Lady Di.
