Agreed. I don't think I agree with the move by the Cavs. I may be wrong, but if they pick up his option, he becomes a unrestricted free agent next year, but at least then the Cavs can offer him more money. At 15 points, 11 boards a game, AND improving, even in the East, that is worth more then the MLE in my opinion.

A 5 year, $60 million deal would be too high, especially by the Rockets, but if the MLE is only about 5.7 million this year, by my calculations, the most he can make over 5 years is about $36 million (assuming a 12.5% raise every year), and I think he may very well get more than that offered.

The number of championships that team could win would be disgusting.

I think they can match any offer up to the MLE, but not more.

Same deal as Cuttino got a few years ago.

So Basicly Anything more then 5.9 mill A year They cant Match?. But i mean The Cavs Must Have alot of Room under the cap to be confident of Competing with the offers that are gonna get. i mean he is certianly gonna get offer inexcess of 5.9 thats for Sure.

The Cavs must be confident that no team will offer Boozer significantly more than the MLE and that Boozer will turn down such offers to come back for the MLE. Interesting gamble since they could have avoided that risk by picking up his option and gaining his bird rights next year. I guess they don't want to overpay him next year.

Personally, if I'm a GM I give all my promising second rounders two-year deals with team options on the third. Then I don't run the risk of losing a guy like Boozer or Cat for more money. I'm surprised that the Cavs didn't pick up his option, but maybe good GMs aren't risk-averse.

The reason that Seattle is not retaining Barry is becaue he's asking for full MLE for four years with maximum increase each year. I think that contract is a bit too large and too long. However, I do like Barry as a player and think that he would be a better solution than Derek Fisher, whose best skill is flopping.

Back to the subject of the thread Brent Barry. Maybe they are looking for him to start him at the 2 and back up the 1 and move T-Mac to the 3. JJ would come off the bench.

    PG Lue/BB
    SG BB/JJ
    SF T-Mac/Boki

    Just a thought.

With Yao and Tmac drawing double teams, the thought of Barry wide open behind the 3pt line makes me giddy.

With that said, I am not sure getting Barry with the MLE is what would happen. I think a better route would be to try to work a sign and trade with Seattle. That way we can keep the MLE and can sign Barry to a deal he might be looking for. And of course from Seattle's side they can get something for Barry with him leaving.

Would the Sonics be interested in a Mo Taylor for Brent Barry S&T? Just throwing that out there.

Personally, I don't think 3 years at 6 million dollars a year is a bad deal at all for Barry for several reasons. One, that contract really isn't that long if you think about, and he is a veteran that stays in shape and fits well with the new Rockets. also, if the Rockets wanted to get rid of him he would still have a lot of trade value. And he is multi-facet. Barry adds depth at the 2-guard and PG position. Heck, I'm guessing Fisher is going to ask for the same thing or more. And wasn't Fisher getting absolutely abused by opposing PGs on defense? It could have been an off-year for him, or the lack of Lakers chemistry causing him problems.

If only we were so lucky!

Don't forget we could package Pike in some deal for a player and the TE for a S&T with Barry.

Maybe we can get BOTH Fisher and Barry so that we can move TMac to 3?

    Our lineup will be:

    Fisher/Lue/Barry
    Barry/JJ/TMac
    TMac/JJ/Snack Bar
    Howard/Mo
    Yao/? (Skinner)

That's pretty sick man. If the opponent double down on Yao and play zone, we can use Barry/TMac/JJ at the perimeter; If the opponents pressure, we will go with Fish/Barry/Tmac.

    Sound good?

I guess that first thought on every trade proposal is "can we unload MoT" now. :)

If they sign Barry for $20M/3, and want to trade him for MoT straight up. I will do it. A bad contract for bad contract, but we get better through the trade.

You might be on to something. JVG has been saying all along that T-Mac is a three.

Keep the TE, give them Spoon, and then we use the whole TE on Boozer.

    Yao/Boozer/Lewis/Tmac/Barry

We are getting the championship next year!!!

Oh well, I just woke up.

I say, if it's affordable and doesn't mortgage future cap flexibility, we sign Fisher AND Barry and then let the chips fall where they may.

Get the best players over here and sort it out in training camp.

Like other posters said, we'd have a ton of options -- start Fisher and Barry with T-Mac at the 3; bring Barry off the bench for for depth at the 1 and 2, etc.

I love what BOTH of these guys bring to the table (Fisher - toughness, savvy, leadership, clutch shooting; Barry -- size at the 1; deadeye shooting from downtown to spread the floor), and I"m being greedy -- I don't want to settle for just one of them.

We should be able to get a backup center/bruiser type for pretty cheap and still afford both those guys. Correct me if I'm wrong, capologists.

But I say we get both Fisher and Barry by dangling the prospect of playing with Yao and T-Mac to get them to bring their prices down.
