In the West I think the Lakers will have the easist time in the first round and maybe the second. Portland is reelling, no Wells, no Kemp, and four old-legged gimps. (Pippen, Smith, Schrempf, and Sabon.). Also, I think the Suns are a bad match-up for Sac in the first round: the Mavs (with their inexperience) or Wolves (who don't have the offensive firepower) would have been better for them to get in the 1st round. The Suns are a scary team in 5 games, because they can be fresh, hitting the jumpers that Kidd can create any time he wants. After playoff series get longer however, defenses begin to dominate, wearing on you, and then the Suns start to fade. If the Suns manage to beat the Kings (I think they can), they become fodder for the Lakers, making their road not too difficult.

I really don't see Minn or Utah beating the Spurs either though. Both teams play good defense and deliberate offense--led by very good and smart point guards, but they both are just a notch below the Spurs in overall talent and won't be able to extend them to the limit (5 or 7 games).

In short, barring injury, the West will obviously come down to the Lakers-Spurs. The east is much tougher to call.

The Lakers may have an easy time with Portland the Lakers seem to have ended the season playing well. If you had watched Portland much this season you would know that Bonzi Wells is the one that they will miss. Shawn Kemp...aka..The Snowman.. was a non-factor the entire season. In fact the subtraction of Kemp has allowed Dale Davis to become more productive with the extra court time. Portland has no one that matches up very well with Kobe or Shaq. Portland enjoys a mismatch with anyone the Lakers throw at Rasheed. If he can stay in the game.
As far as 4 old legged gimps, I wouldn't bother counting Detlef, he has played very sparingly lately.

    Did we?

As far as I remember the series were split down the middle.

Could we have beaten the Bulls with Jordan? I'm not sure.

Rocksmill, that's kind of different than the Jordan situation. Those situations were because the players were getting older, and retiring.

MJ retired because his dad had always pushed him to play baseball, and his dad had just passed away.

I think that the Rockets vs. Bulls was pretty even, except for the Bull's 72-10 season. They were way too good for us to compete with that season.

The only team that should have an * is the spurs, last year the lakers would of beat the spurs with duncan or without. It was the lakers year , shaq wasnt going to be stopped. Lakers will win again this year, no one is going to stop shaq, you have to hope he stops himself.

But it's still a championship you wouldn't have had if Michael had played...

Last time I checked, Michael did play in 95... he was beaten by Shaq and the Magic, who were swept by the Rockets.

And if you want to play that game, you can turn the tables too. I can say almost all of Michael's championships wouldn't be there if the Rockets stayed healthy the way the Bulls did (therefore leading to homecourt and a much easier path to the Finals for Houston in the years Chicago went), and there is no shred of factual evidence to prove your argument is any more valid than mine.

Yeah, the Spurs, who had one of the more dominating playoff runs of all times at 15-2, should have an asterisk... makes a lot of sense to me. [IMG]

It was the Lakers year last year? Please. It took horrific officiating game after game and one of the greatest collapses in the history of sports just to get them to the Finals. They could've easily been beaten. If Duncan did not get hurt last year, I don't only think the Spurs would've beaten the Lakers, I think they would've swept them.

The Cat, I don't think the Lakers would have been swept.

    Beaten?Maybe

Swept?I can almos guarantee that it wouldn't be a sweep.

If you have forgotten Shaq was a monster last season. Combine that with Kobe and Rice and that is a great team.

Shaq is picking up 26, 14, and 2 against the Spurs this season, and he had better numbers against them last year.

Also, the Spurs had no answer to Kobe outside of Elie, and thats not even a great answer.

Would have been a 6 or 7 game series.

spurs won in a 50 game season, who's to say that their run could've lasted that long? And you can make up all the excuses you want for the lakers championship but they won. And when they win again this year, what will be your excuse?

Just like you can make up all the excuses you want for the Spurs championship but they won.

lol! uhh no, i know the spurs won, i dont really care. I was saying that if you are going to put an asterisk by the lakers championship because duncan was injured, then you better damn well put one by the spurs championship too.

The Spurs would have beaten the Lakers last year. Who is going to stop Tim Duncan? David Robinson has always matched up well with Shaq, and the Spurs backcourt has a slight advantage over the Lakers because of Avery Johnson. And the Spurs bench is deeper, and the Spurs SF spot is much better. The Spurs will blow by the Wolves, and the Jazz, and if the Mavs make it to the 2nd round, they don't have the experience to keep up with the Spurs. Spurs will win the championship again this year. And no the Spurs don't deserve an asterick next to their championship. They are the best team in the NBA right now, they have the best record, and they have a championship, a LEGITIMATE championship I might add.

Ha ha. Good one DC -- it's cool. The Davis/Augmon suspension definitely didn't help. Portland sure was terrible in this series though. The Pippen legacy is bolstered.

If you want to dig up month old threads and brag DC, why don't you drag up the on post where you claimed the Spurs would lose to the Timberwolves in the first round!?

The Bulls would not hav been able to beat the Rockets in a finals series. They simply didn't match up well with us and couldn't stop a dominant center such as Dream.

Look at the centers on the teams they did beat...

Lakers: Worthy late in his career
    Suns: Wayman Tisdale [IMG]
    Blazers: Kevin Duckworth? [IMG]
    Sonics: Jim McIlvane? [IMG]
    Jazz Twice: Ostertag [IMG] [IMG]
