Yup, YOU called it from the start. Placeholder career backup was a good shooter all along. Man do I wish I could recognize those things. Any more brilliant basketball knowledge to grace us with?
shut up Cxbby, you're one of the dumbest posters in the forum. i don't even have to look for it, it just shows up
We have an ignore poster function for a reason. You realize this right? If his posts bother you that much, use it. Don't get your panties in a wad about someone on a forum whom you never met. As for Lowry, it was r****ded how many people believed that a player so young could not develop an outside shot, yet they believed certain individuals could somehow magically develop court vision or handles. Shooting is one of the easier skills to develop due to the fact that it is completely within your control. Catch the ball or get open, set your feet, steady it with one hand, apply backspin rotation with shooting hand. These are all things that especially an NBA player can improve upon with repetition. His teammates have said that Lowry was always good at shooting in practice, so to me, I believe it has been (at least recently) a matter of confidence and awareness. Lowry has become more aware of when he HAS to shoot it as well as well as the confidence now that he can knock the shot down in a real game time scenario.
I see the leebigez alarm went off again. Look man/woman, we can always have discussions about basketball. Go a pull up what I said about lowry and his shooting and you will see what I said. as far as lowry being a placeholder, whats wrong with that? Alot of players are placeholders or career backups. If morey wanted a guy to hold it down for a year, wouldnt it make more sense to pay lowry mle vs brooks 8? Now whether or not morey can get a guy like williams after next season or not, we will see. In case u didnt notice, morey made a pitch for Williams. So, unless u think he just want superstars to write a story, then i dont see how you can dispute what I said. I dont know why the super investor cant understand that.
he may not be kevin martin at the ft line, but the guy is an 80%+ ft shooter most years, his consistency has come back later in the year too (he was shooting them pretty badly early on).

Ok, let me preface this by saying I'm not a Lowry hater, in fact if you ask me right now I'd say Lowry is playing at an All star, borderline superstar level the last couple of games. With that said, you've got to look at more than just numbers on the paper to see that Lowry hasn't been a good shooter the prior seasons. Yes, his overall FG% looks good in comparison to Brooks, however that's due to Lowry taking very few 3 pters/long 2s ang getting his points mainly by charging into the paint. Those long 2's where he shot 45, 54 and 51? He took just roughly 1 long two a game. Compare that to Brooks who takes roughly double that amount of long 2's, and around 5 threes a game when he won the MIP. Regarding Lowry's 3p%, he was taking less than one 3 pointer a game before he came to Houston, and he was making it at around 20% of his shots. If you factor in the fact that some of those less than 1 a game 3's were desperation 3s, then the truth is the 3 point wasn't really a part of his game at all. This season he's taking 4, and making more than half of that amount. Its a pretty impressive improvement if you ask me, bordering on ridiculous and almost impossible.
craziest thing is...his assits would be much higher if he played in another system..people dont understand that our team averages top 5 in team assists because of its motion offense... Teams suns and hornets let the PG dominate the plays and gift many assists to paul and nash. Lowry will sometimes set up plays where there is no way possible he can get an assist. 1, 3, 5, catching the 3 on a back door pass play for example. Wish the could track assists by correct play calling/ initial pass lol
That's right, centers always rack up lot of assists in Adelman's system. We have two good high post passers in Hayes and Miller.
Did he get shot on his ankle or something? I've never heard of someone needing pretty much a whole season and an offeseason to recover from an Ankle injury.
I think it depends on the severity of the injury. Didn't grant hill originally just suffer from an ankle injury then it got worse and worse when he tried to play on it? Anyway if Okafor can sit out 3 months because of a sore pinkie I have no problems believing it can take up half a season to recover from an ankle sprain.
Lowry's shooting form has always looked really smooth. And I believe there were reports that Lowry shot the 3 well in practice even before this season. And that his lack of shooting in games was more a mental issue than a physical issue. In fact, just looking at his form, you'd wonder why he couldn't shoot the three before this year, rather than how he could now. So while it's not in doubt that Lowry has improved dramatically from last season to this one, the reason behind it may be up for debate. Perhaps he visited a shrink who gave him confident on his shot. Or maybe he just practice his ass off. Either way, definitely happy with the result.
Lowry's shooting form has looked really well. Most of us that have played basketball in organized form know that for some players there is a difference between game and practice. The adrenal rush is huge and until you become comfortable, it can affect your shooting tremendously. The more minutes Lowry gets, the better he seems to perform. After watching him and his hyper speed pace at Villanova and coming off the bench for Memphis and us, he's probably a high adrenaline player that needs to play a number of minutes so that he can actually slow down a little bit and get a good, smooth and natural rhythm on that jump shot. His shooting numbers sure have gone up substantially this season, the first of his career that he is going to average over 30 minutes per game.
