I could remember somebody posted the hotzones of ra, ab an kl. They show that lowry is a better mid-range shooter than ra and ab.

I think we can hang with them. The key is establishing Yao early and making them work. AB needs to make Mo Williams work extra hard on defewnse to slow him down. It should be a good game.

Remember how last night Aldridge's fronting defense on Yao completely neutralized him? Makes one wonder why teams don't do that for 48 minutes.

On the otherhand, I wonder if Yao will be able to adjust to that in the playoffs.

If he doesn't know any plays and still ran the team better than Brooks, I think that says something about his point guard abilities... That being said, there really isn't much to the Houston offense if you haven't figured it out. Theres 4 guys standing outside the paint, give it to Yao. If front, swing ball. Shoot open threes.

People make a huge deal about his lack of three point shooting and point to that as to why he can't play with Yao. Well, hes almost a 50% shooter when hes a few steps from the three point line. Have him shoot 2's if you have to. At 50%, shooting 2's gets you 2*.5 = 1 point per shot which is the same as 3*.33 or 33% shooting on 3's. When he can raise his open 3 point shooting to over 33% if its not that already, then you can move him back to the 3 point line.

i agree. i like what i see so far granted the only game i saw so far was against the mavs on espn (where they should showcase the rox more or tnt) rafer would drive but he would be lazy and tear drop it whereas lowry would actually get to the basket and bump around taking hits.

I like AB as the starter. With wafer coming in with all guns blazing. Its better to have another guard that came in playing defense and not looking for his own shots.

With the dribble penetration shown by the 2 PGs. I wonder is there any match-up that can allow both PG to stay on court at the same time. It will be fun seeing those 2 together.

I agree with you in the first paragraph. However, that is not as simple as the calculation in the second. Usually a guard with 50% 2s' could be considered as a great player but you can't say a guard with 33.3% 3s' is a good shooter beyond the arc.

I predict that Thursday night, Lowry will join Brooks as the most fearsome tandem ever to guard Lebron, and also the most HILARIOUS.

Does everyone remember how effective Brooks on Lebron was at the end of the last Cleveland game? It was a concession on our part that Lebron was effectively unguardable by one guy, but it worked brilliantly bc Lebron had two options: shoot over him easily, or draw the charge on the little guy. So he shot it, and given Lebron's percentages that was actually good for us. I hope Lowry can do the same thing tomorrow, and Battier and Artest can just focus on shutting everyone else down. It's the most brilliant idea since Hack-a-Shaq.

Well according to hotzones you are right, his midrange game is not bad at all but beyond the arc his not his area. But that is still a young upgrade compared to Rafer.

I think that was a bit of zone defense the Rockets ran. I guess its too school level for NBA teams to run.

Right now Lowry's at around Earl Watson level. If he improves his jumper he can be a decent mid-level starter.

That's not really true; what it showed was that he had a good percentage in the mid-range spots but he had too few shot attempts to really be conclusive.

Also, I think Morey was pretty slick when he said that we're getting an upgrade at the point. I don't think he necessarily thinks Kyle Lowry is a better basketball player than Alston, but I think he feels that the overall point guard play with Brooks in the starting lineup and Lowry coming in for 15-20 minutes will be more efficient (+/-)...

If you look at the overall production from the PG position, I think he's right that these two can out-produce an erratic Alston with Brooks getting spot minutes...

To top it off, I like watching these two more!

i had not paid attention to lowry before he got here. it may be a little too soon, but i actually see more good pg qualities in lowry than i do in brooks. it's not happening anytime soon, but i'd prefer lowry start at the 1 over brooks.

Good thread and good original post. I noticed the same thing last night. He played a mistake free game and definitely impacted things more than the box score showed.
