You can't put a value on a player after only 6 games. If our record wasn't 1-5 i'm sure this would not even be a thread. Miller wasn't brought in to be a go-to guy and lead us to a championship. In time I believe we will see his value to the team. All the guys are still trying to figure out their roles. Once Lowry gets his back thing under control he will be his usual attacking, getting to the FT line self. We will not get every player we want at the optimum price. Sometimes we will have to pay a little more to get them. It's the value to the team sometimes you have to pay attn to. What those players give to OUR team is sometimes worth it. With those deals we also get a couple of players that are playing well but not making much money (Brooks, Budinger, Smith). So there is a balance. We don't have a team full of high contracts and non-productive players.
Ehhh I don't agree with this kind of reasoning. You could be living on foodstamps and wellfare your entire life but hey! At least you aren't mining blood diamonds in Africa! Lowry and Scola are worth it if they are healthy and match their production last season. Miller is a straight up bad contract. I agree with the conspiracy theory that puts the blame on RA. I don't the guy who lowballed Landry for 3 years 9M would suddenly sign an old center for 15M for 3 years.
The Miller signing is not worth it unless Yao goes down, then it would be worth it. Im fine with Lowry but he has to be Lowry (relentless attacking) and not Rafer (chucking threes)
Lowry missed most of the last dozen of games last season because he was injured. I knew in preseason as he was missing games there that the prime reason they signed Ish was that they knew Lowry wouldn't be ready.
If I remember correctly, Miller actually passed up better offers to play in Houston. He said he couldn't turn down the offer because of the opportunity to live in Texas and play under Adelman, not because of the monetary reasons.
dude Brad's contract is horrible!!! No one was going to give him more than the Vet's minimum. Shaq who is still light years more productive only got the min. Yet we sign Brad miller to 3 years 15 million to sit on the bench. He cant play against anyone cause he is soooo SLOOOOOOOOWWW
Shaq wanted to go to a winner so he took the minimum and the deal really is 2/10 million not 3/15, most of his 2012 salary is non-guaranteed.
I think part of the strategy was to discourage offers for Scola. Morey values Lowry but I'm betting they knew setting an example will keep some teams from betting everything on Scola.
Considering the high potential for a lockout next season, there is a strong possibility Miller's contract is essentially only 1yr @ 5mil. Morey has been pretty consistent about keeping flexibility after this season due to the expiring CBA. It wouldn't be all that shocking if he factored the looming lockout in when offering the contract. I also think Miller will be a good locker room guy for the younger post players (and Yao too). Having a vet of RA's highpost offense should speed the learning curve. I remember Yao was always touted as an amazing passer, but that seems to be an area of his game that has never been developed. A big, slow guy that shoots 15 footers, passes well, and excells in RA's system seems to be the perfect teacher for post-injury Yao. Admittedly though, I would prefer to see Hill get the game minutes.
You nailed it on Miller's contract only being a one year deal. Most teams do not expect next year to be played or if it is played to be significantly less. This does make Miller a bit more acceptable but I still think we overpaid some. DD
I guess it would have been better to have Ish as our ONLY PG. Lowry's contract looks like a steal now that Brooks is hurt.
