he's been blocked a lot in this series while bringing it to the hole Lakers do protect their rim well
I actually see a lot of Jason Kidd, but that's only potential. His game overall still reminds me more of Rajon Rondo as I've been saying the entire thread. The only difference is that Lowry is much better at the mid-range jumper than Rondo and he draws fouls better. They make great passes and are great PGs though. Rondo is a Top 10 PG in the NBA, I believe Lowry will make it there one day. Scores likes a Tony Parker Plays defense like a Rondo Has the overall size of Jason Kidd
Yeah, it does seem like people are excusing his missed shots, but the rest of his play has been really strong. I definitely appreciate that he attacks the rim, though he was unsuccessful going to the basket on consecutive tries in Game 5 at Staples Center. He really needs to work on his spot-up shooting, but I do like how he makes up for it by being able to drive in and also move the ball around pretty well. However, being able to hit that open shot will really boost his game and help the Rockets. Overall though, I'm really impressed by his play, and it's been really cool watching him after hearing what he was like when we made the trade and now actually seeing him play, definitely been a great surprise. I love what he does on the 2nd unit with Landry, Wafer, and well previously Deke (or Hayes sometimes). He was definitely a great upgrade for our team. Resemblancewise, I do see some Jason Kidd, and I also see some Rondo, yet like Drexlerfan22 mentioned, he's got a unique body (size/athleticism/strength) and style of play (along with tenacity + toughness) that isn't quite like any other player. You know, it's quite like what you want from a point guard, and it's impressive how he's been able to contribute so much while being such a recent addition to the team. Along with Brooks, he still has a lot to learn and work on, and it's great that he's getting playing experience and will likely get better. Please work on the outside shot though!
After watching Jason Kidd play several seasons as a Nets fan, I believe Kyle Lowry resembles him the most. Neither Kidd nor Lowry possess physical traits that would make them exceptional NBA players but they make it up in intangibles. Lowry, like Kidd, seems to be always at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing, His problem is simply execution at this point. He's almost like the Benjamin Button of guards in that he already has the smarts, he just needs to develop his skills. People forget that when Kidd was in his prime, he was a tough defender and an excellent rebounder for a guard, which one can say the same of Lowry. I think the Rockets would be better suited with having Lowry as the starter if Yao Ming is playing because he can control the tempo, limit turnovers and feed Yao, but Aaron Brooks is clearly better if they play a spread offense.
All of the guys you listed are twigs compared to Lowry. Lowry is a bull. His game is much closer to a Baron Davis.
In terms of size? Yeah, but they have nothing else in common after that. I hope you realize Baron is actually a chucker. There's a reason why he always shoots such low %'s. Not to mention Baron always shoots 3's and can post up. Lowry doesn't post up, so I see more comparisons to Deron Williams than B-Diddy.
He shoots those because his teams have mostly sucked and he could shoot them. Kyle could easily develop a post up game, but there are MUCH better post up options on our team it would be dumb for him to do so. Landry, Yao, Scola, Artest, even if Kyle was the best post up guard around having him do it would be silly. They both drive with brute force and have the weight to back it up.
i dont know of pg resemblance, but that sure reminds me of shane battier...maybe we need a "how low can Lowry go" thread and a "would we already be in the WCF if we had rafer instead of lowry"...
I actually wonder how many people have been watching this series. The bloom is definitely off the rose with this guy and no one seems to want to come to grips with that. I've liked him from when he was with Memphis, and still do. I never thought he should start. Against Portland he had a game or two when he was forcing it to the hole and getting their big guys in foul trouble. Outside of that, he's really done nothing in the playoffs, while Brooks has posed serious problems for both opponents. I'm pretty disappointed in his performance. He's a competent backup, nothing more at this point, while Brooks has star potential. I still like him a lot though.
His game is based on getting fouls called in his favor. That has not happened in this series so his game has gone downhill in a huge way.
I agree with some of your post, but not all of it. Aaron does not have the potential to be a star and neither does Kyle. I would have no problem with Kyle starting if Yao was playing. I do agree that Lowry tends to have the officials bail him out more than have his own game bail him out. I think it could change in the off-season though, but also Aaron could change and he actually might consider passing the ball to Yao in the off-season. We'll just have to wait and see ourselves.
took until page 3 of this thread to find some real responses. I can't believe you could compare Lowry to any of the guys in the poll, honestly.. he's just a different player. And not as good of course. I know you said style in the op, but skill level matters some.. I like all the comparisons above if Lowry gets his mid-range game better.. but Douglas and AJ especially improved over the course of their careers. edit: I've also said Eric Snow in previous posts on this board. Doesn't have the height, but he plays defense like he does so it works
ya know.....I have been lookin at Von Wafer and thinkin "that dude looks like someone I have seen before.......and the today, it hit me.
All I know is he's not good enough to be a backup PG on a team that wants to win an NBA championship. 3rd string yes, 2nd string now.
These are the most well-thought out responses in this thread. Good job guys and I agree with both of you guys.
