yep paul and westbrook are locks, now that Nash is declining it seems the West is wide open if there are 3 PGs, he might also get in with injuries to other players.
You know... at first I was thinking "ok, that's rediculous". But it's quite possible we're the random team that used to be a scrub that suddenly finds itself like the #4 seed in the West. It's certainly happened before. The year that the Lakers got Pau Gasol, they were actually the #1 seed before the trade because of the emergence of Bynum... the same team Kobe/Odom/Bynum and scrubs was the 7th seed the year before and got knocked out of the first round. Washington was kind of like that for a few years when Arenas suddenly became a big time player. Also, it really makes you wonder if like 20 games into the season we're something like 13-7... you think "stars" on other crappy teams might start looking at the Rockets as a potential destination? It seems like every year there are like 1 or 2 guys that get traded midseason basically as a semi-fire sale. Last year Gerald Wallace got traded to Portland. Williams got traded to the Nets (although that wasn't exactly the same thing). Actually... I wonder if Lowry really comes on like he is this year. Maybe if the Nets start thinking of trading Williams... maybe New Jersey will feel like Lowry would be a solid consolation prize. And I know people are going to say things like "we couldn't do that to Lowry! Lowry > Williams! He's the better value at that salary." and I'll admit that it's probably just a slight upgrade if anything but it's still an upgrade IMO. Also, the funny thing regarding that possibility is it opens up the potential for us to grab Howard as well. If we somehow pull off a midseason trade for Williams using Lowry, suddenly we're a team with cap space and a team that has Williams, Martin, and Scola as it's core. I know... it's a pipe dream.
Actually I'll take back what I said about Lowry v Deron Williams. I'll wait until more of the season plays out. If Lowry is averaging 9-10 assists this year then I guess he would be better than Williams. I'm kind of assuming he'll fall back to earth a little when it comes to assists.
I love Lowry to death... in fact, he's easily my favorite player in the NBA. But unless the Rockets are flirting with the top seed in the West for most of the first half of the season, there's really no way he makes the All-Star game. This team just doesn't get enough recognition and attention. That was obviously shown during that entire blocked-trade fiasco.
Lowry is awesome but lets face it the allstar game is more of a popularity contest then anything else and outside of Houston know one really cares for lowry so....
Some would still argue that Nash and Parker are still better but when it comes to being a complete deal Lowry steals the show. Nash can't play D and Parker is a shoot first PG just like Curry.
He'll quite possibly deserve an All-Star nod. Not a chance in hell he actually gets one over the bigger names at guard in the West.
Here's the East too for you: 1. Derrick Rose 2. Deron Williams 3. Chris Paul 4. Kyle Lowry 5. Russell Westbrook 6. Rajon Rondo 7. Ty Lawson 8. Tony Parker 9. Raymond Felton 10. Steve Nash I know I'm a Rocket homer, but I like PG's that can run a team and play defense. I don't see how Westbrook is that much better than a Tyreke Evans. Where are the wins going to come from if Durant goes down? Westbrook would have that team with all its talent playing at .500 ball with him scoring 25ppg every night at least.
The numbers that Lowry put up during the tail end of last year's season to now have been pretty impressive, however I'm not quite ready to say he's an all-star yet. I feel like once he becomes an even more dominant force scoring wise is when he'll get the All-Star nod
Paul, Westbrook, Evans, Nash Those four off the top of my head are bigger names than Lowry. Lowry is an allstar imo, but that doesn't mean you'll make the allstar team. Yao ming didnt need to play a game to make the cut. However, maybe we still get the asian vote and he does. Hard to say, but I would imagine Paul would be voted and Westbrook or nash would be the reserve.
From a basketball standpoint: Yes. From NBA's marketability standpoint: No. Lets just see how many Yao fans we still have that can vote him in despite big bad Stern!
To the general public, it'll be a no. To people who really follow basketball maybe. The only way he'll get into the allstar game is if he starts hitting game winners or getting triple doubles like crazy, otherwise he won't get the national attention of the public. So unless he starts making it on ESPN on a decent basis, no.
Not sure why everyone thinks Lowry is obviously in based just on merit. Just look how all-stars are picked, it's basically 5 guards which are not separated by SG/PG. There are 3 players obviously better than Lowry: Westbrook, Kobe, CP3. There are MANY players that you can argue are on par with Lowry, if not better, for the last 2 positions: At least one of Parker or Ginobilli has to be an all-star assuming the Spurs play well. Then you have Ty Lawson who's of similar ilk execept running a more winning team(both last year and likely this year). As well as Golden State's duo of Ellis/Curry. Plus there are potential breakout players like James Harden, Tyreke Evans, etc. Does Lowry deserve to be in the mix? Yes. Is he a definitive top 5 guard in the western conference? Not really. There are plenty of other talented young players elsewhere, and many of them will shine this year. And the general tie-breaker when judging players of similar production, Lowry will likely lose out when it comes to winning.
I don't see a lot of guards posting near triple doubles though, For example Ellis.....is more one dimensional than Lowry....he has his forte Curry is a straight shooter with numbers improving........ Chris Paul's recent numbers were 15 pts 4 rb 10 as not exactly stellar
I am saying he will average only triple doubles from here on, but he is more Lebronesque of a PG than one might think.....he is a better rebounder than those names above ...and that is rare
Wow, when was that quote? I don't remember it, but I probably held an opinion of that ilk back when Brooks was starting and Lowry had no jumpshot. Congrats. You've proven that I can make incorrect future predictions. I admit my internet loss.
