Chris Paul is going to start, that's a lock... and with his shooting percentages, he deserves to up to this point anyhow. We knew going in that Lowry would have to earn it as a coaches pick for a reserve spot. Question is -- will they take more than three point guards, and/or does Lowry deserve it more than Russell Westbrook (20.5 ppg on 45+% shooting, 5.5 dimes, 5.0 boards) and Steve Nash (15.1 points, 10.1 assists, hitting over 55% from the field)? Even if he does, those are two big names that the media will jump all over as being snubbed if Lowry gets the nod over them. Ty Lawson is having a good year, but Lowry beats him out. Monta Ellis is putting up huge numbers (23+ points, over 7 dimes), but you can take him as a two-guard. So for me it comes down to -- could they take 4 point guards?
I think he beats out Nash in your scenario Clutch, particularly if the Rox have a much better record, if they are even record wise, then it is a toss up. DD
Steve Nash is a two-time MVP, currently 7th in the entire league in FG% (as a guard!) and is leading the league in assists (10.1 a night). It's too early to draw any real conclusions, but right now, Lowry over Nash because of his rebounding would be a hard sell to the NBA public.
I don't see much buzz about Lowry outside of Houston. All-star selection to me seems really unlikely, unless there are injuries to other players and he is selected that way by David Stern.
While I agree, Nash's team is not doing that well this year. I don't think people have been paying a lot of attention to them this year. This may help Lowry's case a little bit
I did not realize he was leading the league in assists - you are correct sir, it would be a tough sell. Maybe though, he will beg out of playing in the all star game due to some "injury" etc. DD
Kobe and Paul are deserving starters as both have been pretty dominant to start the season. Lowry should make the All-star team along with Westbrook on the bench. The other candidates just aren't winning (Nash) or injured (Manu). I think his chances of making it are VERY high, and we all love a new kid on the block at every all-star game.
Considering Stern wanted Lowry (and others) as throw ins to help narrow the gap in the Gasol-CP3 trade talks, I have a hard time seeing him actually doing that But you're right... we'll see what happens between now and All Star reserve-picking day, but it looks like it's still an uphill battle for Kyle.
4 pt guards on a 12 man roster? Let's see we know westbrook, Nash, and Paul are in as well as Kobe and ellis. Gordon's injury will likely prevent him from being selected. Forwards....griffin, love, Durante, alridge, and dirk are shoe ins. Center is Bynum. That's 11. So Kyle has to beat out Evans, al Jefferson, Paul Gasol, and Rudy gay for the last spot. And tony Parker is in the mix as well. If Lowry averages 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and 18 pts....if he can pull those numbers off...he's in. Otherwise it will be al jefferson in my opinion for that last spot since they can count Him as a center and have 2 centers, 5 forwards, and 5 guards.
