How many of these were shooting fouls? how many were stopping a fast break layup? how many were on help defense? one star from me.
I haven't been too impressed yet. Very willing to give it a few weeks though. I think the best part about or new PG tandem is Brooks getting heavy minutes. He didn't have his best game last night, but I think he's only going to get better.
Yeah, Brooks has a lot of game polishing to be done. He hasn't gained my confidence just yet, but I was very suprised to hear he still dropped 20 or so points last night. I just thought, "Really? dang how'd he get that many?" haha
OP forgot a stat in his figures 3-0 thats the record we have with lowry with two of those win being against western conference playoff teams the guy is brand new being asked to learn one of the most difficult systemsat the most difficult position...
aaron brooks is our starting point guard so lowry is never going to play over 25 minutes a game. i don't think we need to worry about him fouling out. looking at a stat sheet and seeing how many fouls a player has committed and how many minutes they have played isn't always a good way to analyze them as a defensive player. for example, sometimes players foul on purpose (when a player on the opposing team has a layup, you foul on purpose to make them beat you at the line, etc.).
Too bad there is not a stat for "wide open layups created for teammates" because Lowry has already surpassed Alston in that category.
...haha I LOL'ed at that. Lighten up, Lowry is still getting used to the system. He's probably not used to our team defense and is just throwing himself out there to get an easy foul. Once you get the trust in place, he'll probably cut the fouls real quick. You don't think Morey sees that the kid fouls a lot? It'll be an easy adjustment on Lowry's part, so don't flip out.
What are we going to do about him? I'm personally going to enjoy watching him play. As for you, my best suggestion is that you go play in traffic. Good luck with that
I more I see him play, the more he looks like a Shane Battier at the PG spot to me. He might not be able to shoot the 3s well, but he can drive and finish. Their defensive styles are very similar and they stay in front of their guys. Getting fouls and not allowing people to drive to the basket is essential to the Rockets. Noticed how many fouls Yao got while Lowry's on the floor. That is a very big factor. Sure, Yao got called for a few fouls from a flop or two, but noticed how less often Yao have to help a PG recover from being beat on the dribble?
It's funny how you compare his defense to Chuck Hayes like it's a bad thing. I'm not going to look it up for the other games, but against Portland, all 3 were on help -- 2nd quarter, shooting foul on The Marcus 4th quarter, personal foul on Przybilla 4th quarter, shooting foul on The Marcus In case you were curious, The Marcus went 2-4 on those free throws.
I skipped most of the responses on this thread, but I must say that your evaluation is a tad bit harsh, Denton. lol Fact is, he's played hard ... & that's all we can ask at this point. Looks like he just needs to improve the outside shot a little. I like his passing, & his aggressive D. Way too harsh of an analysis, imo.
