Lol. In case you haven't noticed, we're running the same offense as Adelman's last year. Lowry's just a better player this year, let's not give Mchale too much credit
I would wait more games to see excatly what type of offense we have, if you watch Adelman's team and offense by this part of the year the last season, you would not be watching nothing pretty, and definitely it would be something very different to the offense of the mid-end of season. I mean, some players have not even learned the plays, let's give the staff some time, there has been no training camp, practically. For now: we didn't see the typical game for Martin at the preseason or at the first game in Orlando, but we have seen modifications from then on. Obviously we only have Scola as reliable piece to whom give the ball inside. Hill and Patterson are not ready for it, at least for now (Morris inside could be another weapon). I would love to play like the Grizzlies, but we have what we have, no Marc here.
Did we only have 5 players with Adelman? This. We would suffer no less or no more than any other team losing their best player. Wow, it's surreal that Lowry is our best player for real -who would had called it at the beginning of last season.
(Clarify that I was reffering to the team game for Martin. Off the ball screens...and that kind of plays. I'm sure that we have more plays that will be introduced over time as the players learn the current ones.)
dunno if its true or no but the gurus calling this version of the Rockets "McHale's system" are premature. 3 reg season + 2 preseason, running a lot of the same plays & players ... too early to call it anything other than the confusion of a condensed season.
Last season the offense was high post initiated 90% of the time. Thats why you would see weird things like a Chuck Hayes triple double. This year it is nearly all pick and roll with Lowry as the point guy. As I said, I don't think Lowry is playing alll that different from last year, he just sets up all the plays and there is inherently going to be more opportunity for him to wrack up assists. He also had six turnovers, tying his high mark for all of last season. Again, not bad, because he ran ALL the plays. In my opinion he played his best two years ago coming off the bench. I think this is something Morey alluded too in a podcast a couple days ago. He was playing at his peak effeciency then. While I agree with your assesment, I am not quite sure what McHale's system is, because it iseems to be a work in progress. I feel most of us here know our players better than McHale does to be honest. It seems like he likes to put the tallest/fastest guy in the game, rather than who is actually good. For instance Parsons instead of Morris, or Flynn over Dragic. The only things from last year that are being used, started after the Orlando game with Martin. Its clear someone explained to McHale how Martin is nearly impossible to stop coming off back picks, and pick/pops. Before he tried to use him as an isolation player, which just isn't his game. Of course this was lost on most people, who just assumed he was pissed at the failed trade and was stinking it up on purpose.
It's not like old school pg-reliant playstyles don't work, but the problem is that our backup PG's aren't capable in running an offense like ours in their current state. WE do have to consider that it is still early in the season and we do need to give them time to adjust to a new coaching staff and a new system. However, I think it's a combination of Lowry's improvement and the fact that a system is more reliant on him to make plays that improves his stats. The more the players get used to the system, the better his stats will become because then they will be in the right spots and the offense will end up getting us better opportunities than we see now.
This post highlights some of what I would call Kyle Lowry Hate. Not because of what it says but rather because of the kind of intentions that come out of saying these things. Kinda like how you can instantly understand how someone feels about Tim Tebow 1 second after hearing them make ANY comments about him. 1. To say that an offensive system inflates a particular player's numbers implies that every other team with a "superstar" is not also doing the same thing. You don't think Chris Paul's teams inflate his numbers by having the offense revolve around him. You don't think his teams want the ball in his hands as much as possible because he is a more trustworthy/reliable person with the ball than any of his teammates? It's the exact same thing with Kyle. If you are starting from a position that "Lowry is a superstar" then you arrive at the exact same results in terms of how the team is run and how plays are called. The reason the Rockets put the ball in his hands is because he is our best player; he knows what to do with it and the results will reflect that. 2. The argument of Adelman's offense over McHale's because "what if Kyle gets injured" is pure BS. What has Kyle Lowry ever done to imply that he might be injury prone? This is probably the toughest guy on our team. He is built like a tank and has no history of repetitive injuries to boot. If any team loses their best player they will suffer; no need to prophylax against this by employing a system that relies on no one in particular. If Lebron, Durant, Paul or Dwight go down, their teams will suck. End of story. I don't care how "underrated" Adelman's offensive system is anymore, he's not our coach and we don't need to make excuses for why he never won anything. 3. What is all this obsession about Adelman's offense anyways? He tried to turn Yao Ming into a Vlade Divac and failed, so he reverted to a "traditional" style offense with Yao in the low post like, oh, EVERY other offense of every team that ever had a superstar center. Why this took multiple games in the regular season to figure out I don't know. This isn't chess. This isn't even football. This is basketball. The record for most points scored by a single person is 100. As in however many points teams usually need to win a game. As in, "One person can win the game for you." You can try to sidestep that fact all you want, but Stern or no Stern, basketball with only 5 people on the court is dependent upon the best player so much more than any other professional sport. Almost every team, then, with one such player will do everything in its power to exploit that player's strengths. McHale's system is nothing revolutionary. But who said it needed to be? This is our team now. Let's get behind it shall we? If some guys look better and some look worse, so what. My money is on us doing better with Kyle Lowry looking like an All-star in the process. And if you're against that proposition, well, that's just unpatriotic of you.
Lowry can excel in any system. He's getting better stats because he's taken his game up another notch or two.
One thing I can say about Lowry is he doesn't give a crap about whether or not he gets 10 + assist or national love for himself. He is a true winner and wants to win every single game. So, the coach that gets him the most WINS is his coach. It has a lot to do with Morey and McHale these next few years.
I think Kyle Lowry can run it in any system. Sometimes, it's the players not the system or everyone would run the same system.
