Dampier is as sure as gone with Kwame there now. Cats might be waiting until Sept. when Dampiers contract can be aggregated wth another for the purpose of a larger value trade. If they don't deal him, they will dump him in September.
He's a better post defender than that entire list except for duncan, perkins, howard, and yao. He's a better post defender than you're giving him credit for big time.
great chance for MJ to show the world he wasnt that dumb....he'll try his best to make Kwame a respectable starter.
Really? Camby and Noah are not better than him? Even Nazr Mohammed is a better post defender than Brown, that's why he was a starting center for the champion Spurs.
You could do a whole lot worse at LEAGUE MINIMUM. Which I think the league pays a part of veteran minimum salary. Its not like he doesn't belong in the league.
This Kwame Brown for the min. is a good signing. I mean, sure, he's basically a WORSE version of Chuck Hayes...but for the minimum that's not so bad. I mean, quite honestly I'd rather have Kwame Brown than say Slowmile Swift or Steve Novak or Luther Head or Brian Cook. Brown will give you solid defense, and although his rebounding also sucks he won't demand for the ball or cause drama on the court. The biggest LOL here belongs to Joe Dumars, who actually offered Brown a 3 year 9M contract. I didn't realize Kwame's contract has expired already LOL  Man Dumars like to gamble a lot then just throw his pieces away (Darko, Amir Johnson and now Brown). He should have kept Brown on the roster for that type of money.
Camby definitely isn't a better one on one post defender, he is a much better help defender. Noah is also not better than him one on one although once again he is a good help defender as well. I've always thought Nazr sucked as a defender.
Probably wouldn't matter, but wouldn't be surprised if MJ tore him apart. The guy is known for being really hard on those around him. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z8yAhN3EtME?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z8yAhN3EtME?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
28. That's right folks, he is a 10 year vet at only 28 years of age. 28. One year older than Kevin Martin, at 28 years of age.
watching kwame play is like watching the kid who you have seen dominate in practice, but put him in the game and he's so nervous he can't even catch the ball. that's what he reminds me of, but over a 10year stretch.
Yeah, I'm sorry, but I really can't agree with you. I'd rate Kwame Brown's defense as good. Just good. Elite is seriously a stretch. He's better than most at guarding the PnR due to his athleticism and he's somewhat of an asset when isolated on the low block due to his size and length. But he's not shutting guys down or dominating games defensively. He's become ridiculously foul-prone, despite the fact that he doesn't block shots anymore. He's a decent 5th big if you can't do any better. He's really not even the best post defender on his new team. DeSagana Diop is almost certainly better, and so is Dampier on nights when he decides to work hard. There's really no good reason to defend Kwame Brown. He's not living up to the billing of #1 overall pick on either side of the ball.
http://www.nba.com/bobcats/video/2010/08/24/100824kwamebrown-1399441/index.html Kwame's video press conference... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 23, 2010 Don't confuse this signing with a do-over I'm using some vacation time to tend to two elderly parents (thanks, Ron Green Jr., for filling in), but when I heard about the Bobcats signing Kwame Brown, I figured I'd blog in: Some thoughts: -- Again this is one more indication the Bobcats will eventually waive Erick Dampier's contract to off-load about $13 million in salary responsibility. Sorry if that ticks some of you off (I know you want Dampier to be a trade chip), and they certainly gave up an asset in Tyson Chandler. However, it's no surprise. The day Michael Jordan was formally introduced as majority owner he predicted they'd have to make a trade that wouldn't be good basketball-wise, but would have to be done, payroll-management wise. This was that deal. They haven't waived Dampier yet because he hasn't cost them anything. But barring a miraculous deal that both solves their luxury-tax problems and improves their roster, Dampier seems destined to be waived. They wouldn't continue to sign complementary free agents unless they intended to dump that big contract. You don't need an economics degree to figure that. -- Jordan has told various confidantes that one of his frustrations with Kwame Brown was remarkably small hands that limited him offensively inside. Obviously the expectations are a lot lower now. I bet Nazr Mohammed (barring a trade) is the opening-day starter at center. -- Please don't fancy this as Jordan's effort at rectifying a mistake. Taking Brown No. 1 way back when for the Wizards had little, if anything, to do with signing him as a free agent for a modest salary now. Brown has become a journeyman. He's a viable defensive big man, so he can supply some of what they lost trading away Chandler. Larry Brown always wants several options inside. I'm confident this is much more about placating Larry Brown (who can't be pleased they traded Chandler for little more than payroll relief) than about any misguided sense Kwame Brown will suddenly become a difference-maker.
