Ive met him a number of times and he's always come off as a pure douchebag. He's done well for himself though.

Mine was a 90-100 with living expenses. My brother went to Baylor and his was about the same. My younger brother got taxed out of state (Cali) and was around that neighborhood. Med school bills for him are through the roof. My younger sister doesn't care about school much so the community college bills right now are super cheap

Wow, that was top shelf stuff for me. It was Natty Light or The Beast for us. We sacrificed quality for volume.

Man, university is expensive in the states. In Canada, tuition is only $5000 to 6000/yr.. If you live on campus add $5000. Why is there such a huge difference?

because it's no longer about education, it's about profits. there's no reason why there should be a new edition of your calculus book every year that cost $140.

Supply and Demand. If there were fewer students universities would charge less. Essentially (as politically incorrect as this sounds to say) there are too many students.

    How?

Well, a lot of people go to college that maybe wouldn't normally have the means because of the fact the govt backs student loans for people. If the govt didn't back loans, then fewer banks would be willing to loan to those who want to attend. Less money = either less students or lower costs (probably both). Certainly less overall student debt.

In essence, the govt increases the cost of education for all by propping up demand. Its another example of govt interference in a true capitalist marketplace.

Replace college with homes and Sallie Mae with Freddie Mac. Same end result.

I don't have much to say about this other than my cousin went to UH and then on to Harvard Law. He does say that the education itself is probably overrated. But going to that school definitely means something. He got offered to work at Chevron back in Houston here starting $160k. I doubt if Chevron will be starting out UH Law grads at that level. He has no contacts before but he sure does now.

Damn, he's the one that sold business.com domain name for $7mil? I remember reading about it but didn't realize it was a Houston dude. Googling further shows he's worth about $50mil.

It really depends on the instrument, genre, and what you're looking to get out of it. Taking jazz as an example, at UNT you spend most of your time playing in a big band. At Berklee, you spend more time in combos and smaller ensembles, groups you're more likely to play in as a professional musician. Berklee is really about the contacts you make though. I know a couple of guys playing with John Mayer that met him when they were all at Berklee together. Of course, anyone who's worth a damn is going to get a scholarship there by their Junior year.

Not really. Macalu is more accurate. Student loans are insanely profitable for the government, so they have no incentive to help reduce tuition costs - tuition is dramatically outpacing inflation accordingly.

It does not help that some private companies that act as middlemen also get a huge cut of this scam.

Baylor is private so it's the same for everyone. Tuition is considerably more now
