I don't think it has anything to do with that, he just went to the wrong team and the wrong time. LA's system was not for him, and his attitude was already unpopular. He didn't play well in LA because the system wasn't right and his health wasn't great. I think if he had a different coach, and started that whole year over again, things would have been different, but who knows?
Tanking actually would benefit them, if they'd at least have a shot a possible all-star caliber rookie coming right into league, whether it be Wiggins, Parker, or etc. You have another all-star/superstar, right there with cap space, Kobe, and decent role players. Chasing another superstar is going to eat up alot of cap space, while you could get a lower tier star fairly reasonable, get high draft pick, and hope Kobe agress to shut it down for the year. None of the egos involved will let that happen . . . hehe
No it won't. See the Lakers are more than just another franchise...they're THE Franchise of the NBA. If you polled all the NBA spectators in the world, 1/4 of the entire fans would probably be Laker fans, or count the Lakers among their fav team. They've developed the kind of mystique, the kind of branding the made guys like Shaq, Gasol, DH (before at least) leave their own cities and legacy behind to become just another "Laker Legend". If they tank and suck for 5-6 years like OKC did then they lose all that branding, instead of having max fas come to them off their own freewill they're gonna have to build a contender the hard way like everybody else. Maybe the Lakers will try tanking for one year so they can get Wiggins ala Bynum. But my guess is they try to remain competitive, and then go after Bron in 2014.

How is Mchale's system different then D'antoni's? They're both PnR mainly. Right when D'antoni became coach Dwight immediately refused the system and wanted to be a strictly low post player. Now all of a sudden he's excited to run PnR for Mchale? C'mon now thats just a lot of BS going on there.
I dont think Dwight opposes the PnR at all - he made quite an impact and a career running it in Orlando. I just think Dwight hates D'antoni - considering that he wanted Jackson all along and seeing D'antoni there was just a constant reminder of how the Lakers org didn't take his opinion into consideration. Also outside of a pre-broken down Amare no center has done that well in D'antoni's system. And even them Amare was a power forward not a real center. All these rumors of Dwight being Kobe's Tyson Chandler were a complete injustice to Dwight and his capabilities. And in LA there were so many people who were excited about the Pau and Nash PnR not the Nash and Dwight because both Pau and Nash are super smart players who can hit the jumper and make amazing passes. The hope was for Pau to make the second pass to Dwight off the PnR assuming Dwight's man was the one coming to help out on Pau. So now you have a coach in McHale one of the best big man coaches in there that can help Dwight with his low post game and will be far more featured than he was in LA - Dwight would be much more willing to go back to the PnR where its primarily him being the guy setting the screen and getting the ball. You also have a bunch of shooters surrounding him so he can get the ball in the post a bit more - he isnt the best low post guy the team has in terms of moves (that may actually be D-Mo) but with his strength and athleticism the 3-4 shots he has may be far more efficient than any other player on the team on the low block.
