Kudos to trump for honoring this great cause... though a shame its timed to be the setup for barr report-related questions to trump which will distract from the cause being honored.

Trump to honor wounded veterans at the White House

It may look like just a bike ride, but as 29 wounded warriors hit the Washington-area roads this week, it is a testament to service, sacrifice and perseverance. Wounded Warrior Project's DC Soldier Ride is underway, a three-day journey aimed at overcoming adversity -- both physical and mental -- and fostering bonds in the veteran community. The warriors will be honored Thursday at the White House, an annual celebration dating back to the Bush administration in 2008 and President Donald Trump's third such event since taking office. It will be Trump's first event of the day, likely concurring with the expected release of a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report. But for the 29 riders, who come from across the country and represent all branches of the US military with a combined 73 deployments and 284 years of service, Thursday will be a rare opportunity to be honored by the President for their service.

Gilead to donate HIV medication for up to 200,000 Americans a year

T he Health and Human Services Department announced Thursday that California-based Gilead Sciences Inc. has agreed to donate medications that reduce the risk of HIV transmission for up to 200,000 people a year. “Will help us achieve our goal of ending the HIV epidemic in America!” President Donald Trump said in a celebratory tweet. The pledge may last up to 11 years, said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. Gilead GILD, +0.09% will donate its Truvada prevention pill until a second-generation version becomes available.

Carl Schmid of the AIDS Institute called the donation “a really significant step,” saying it will make the drug available to uninsured people. It lists for more than $20,000 per patient, per year. Gilead Sciences said in a news release that the medication donation is one of the largest ever made in the United States and is part of the company’s ongoing initiatives to help ensure that everyone who can benefit from the medicine is able to access it.

Kudos to trump. For the sake of transparency, I suffer from kidney disease. And also being transparent, the first lady also suffers from kidney issues. Of course, with trump you don't know exactly what will be done, but hopefully those with serious kidney challenges will be helped by this...

President Trump is delivering a speech and signing an executive order to advance kidney health in America, a somewhat offbeat topic for him to address. The president is delivering the speech at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in D.C. Specifically, Mr. Trump's executive order directs the federal government to revamp the nation's care for kidney disease, so that more people whose kidneys fail have a chance at early transplants and home dialysis — along with better prevention so patients don't get that sick to begin with. "The kidney, very special, the kidney has a very special place in the heart. It's an incredible thing," the president told his audience. The people that have to go this - people that have loved ones that are working so hard to stay alive they have to work so hard. There's an espirit de corps, there's a spirit like you see rarely on anything."

The executive order the president signed calls for strategies that have the potential to save lives and Medicare dollars. But that won't happen immediately — some of the initiatives will require new regulations, which have a process.

Kudos to trump... he just put out yet another executive order... this one making Christmas Eve a federal holiday. For the Christmas Eve President, it might be his greatest accomplishment. So, kudos!

Trump gives most federal employees day off on Christmas Eve

Federal agencies will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, President Donald Trump announced, giving federal employees an extra day off the day before Christmas. The president made the announcement via an executive order, which he released Friday afternoon. For the second year, Trump has chosen to buck the trend that previous presidents have often followed in granting federal employees time off before Christmas. The last time Christmas fell on a Friday was in 2015, when former President Barack Obama gave federal employees a half day off on Christmas Eve. He did the same thing in 2009, when Christmas again fell on a Friday.

Of course, not all federal employees will have the day off. “The heads of executive departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on Dec. 24, 2020, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need,” the order reads.
