Alex Gibbs is here on a year to year basis so I don't if he is going to retire or not. Former Boston College head coach job Jeff Jagodzinski has connections to Alex Gibbs and Mike Sherman so he could be a candiate for the o-line job if it opens up.
Not exactly happy that McNair isn't even considering the possibility of change, but I guess Kubiak staying is fine. Btw, the whole "what ifs" with kicking and fumbling is a bit old, IMO. Every team has its "what ifs". While the Texans lost a few games narrowly, it wasn't as if they blew out their opponents in all their wins either. Our team stayed relatively healthy the whole year, and we're 9-7. We may be a 10-6 team, or a 8-8 team. That's about it. But next year better be a playoff year, or there's no way Kubiak survives.
Just watch, Texans will start off poorly(1-5 or something of that nature), then go on a hot streak and finish 9-7 but still missing the Playoffs. McNair will attribute that bad start to injuries/bad luck/misc. and ignore it, while looking at the positive way Kubiak ended the season. Then he'll sign him to a 5 year extension.
Isn't our schedule much more difficult next year? I think we trade the NFC West(Oakland, SF, Seattle & St. Louis) for the NFC East(Dallas, Philly, Giants & Washington). We won all 4 of the NFC West games, while I think we loose 2 of the nfc East games. However I do think we'll win 2 of the games we lost this year next year. In other words, I'd be satisfied with 9-7 again next year.
You can't do much about your non-conference/non-divisional games... its the games against your OWN division that you have to take care of. They need to get at least 3 wins in the division next year... they should be good enough to take care of all three of these teams at home, and then potentially steal a game on the road (like they did @ Tenn this year... even though that was their ONLY division vicotry). I'll take our chances with pretty much any non-divisional opponent in Reliant. Road games are tough pretty much everywhere regardless of the division you play (see the Texans losing at Arizona and barely beating St. Louis this year).
My bad!! Replace Oakland with Arizona & we lost to them. Therefore I'd be satified with 10-6 next year.
Oh joy. Another year of "Dr. 1st Half Jekyll and Mr. 2nd Half Hyde" football filled with questionable-at-best play calling, terrible challenges, and bizarre clock management. With the schedule we have next year, I'm putting the early over-under line on Kubiak "It's on me"-like press conference statements at 7. Ugh. If Cowher and Shanahan (and perhaps Gruden) are coaching next year and lead teams to better records than the Texans in their first year, I hope someone kicks Bob McNair in the nuts.
I'm not optimistic about more Kubiak. He just strikes me as a bonehead. I hope I'm wrong. I want him to succeed.
Bob Mcnair is hoping Kubiak can do like Jon Gruden. I think Gruden went 8-8 3 yrs in a row and the next year came the tuck rule game in the Divisional Round.
Playoffs or out for Kubiak, barring extreme circumstances (like AJ and Shaub both getting injured for the season).
He better start looking for a new OC. Someone who won't call for a HB option, or a no look corner fade on the 1 yard line.
Hey, the no-look corner fade at the 1 isnt a bad play. Its just a bad play on 4th down. Great play on 1st or 2nd down.
If Cowher was never going to be a McNair target, I'm not going to kick cans over this. I also don't have a ton of faith in Kubiak ironing out his weak points, but this beats the pants off of a Herm Edwards era.
Next year, Indy will be tough, and the Titans will be a lot better with VY starting all year. Gonna be a tough go to make the playoffs in this division. DD
How are you certain they will be better with VY starting ? Just because he did well in a short stint this year (against weak teams) doesn't mean he will do great next year. He always seems to struggle.
