I think that he and Kris have a good relationship with each other regarding all of the work they've both done in the community together. You can't help but feel bad for the guy when he's getting booed as he comes out on the field to kick an extra point, but business is business and he's not getting the job done. He's got to go.
(put to music) I'm not excited! Personally, I understand the move, but I am still in favor of major change. This team lacks a sharpness, a toughness, a mental edge and I think that is primarily coaching. Oh well.
Even if the Texans lost I think Kubiak still would have kept his job. That Miami game was the stamp for 2010.
Ah...Kris Brown...There's just not enough profanity in the world.... Gary...I don't know, I say you had to give him another year unless we could've gotten somebody like a cowher...and I think this game did it for him. I think if we lost this one, he might be gone...
McNair had no choice. Kubiak is coming off the first winning season in franchise history and if the Bengals win tonight, the first playoff appearance in franchise history. He can't pull the trigger now.
It took almost the whole season, but Kubiak was eventually able to quit one Chris Brown. We will see if he decides to quit the other one.
I dont mind that he's coming back. Its that McNair seems too nice about things. Put a little pressure and suspense to it. Hang it over the coaches heads a little. At least wait for the darn last qualifying game to end.
You could see this whole scenario coming 5- 6 weeks ago. Frankly, I'm disgusted as we should have won 10 - 11 games minimum. Bob should have made a handshake deal with Cowher then.
It doesn't. I still don't think he is a good coach. However, the team clearly came to play for him to end the season, as if they were trying to save his job. Edit: More on that, folks are overlooking the fact that Ryan, in his rookie year, is about to take the Jets to the playoffs with a rookie QB.
You have to include the 2-14 the year prior to taking over... and also the fact that the team he took over was WORSE than taking over an expansion team. Yes, they could have been better this year... but given the fact that they have the flaws we know they have, are you really that suprised at 9-7? I don't see many other coaches doing that much better with this squad... they achieved about where they should have given their talent level and defeciencies. However, he has created a great foundation... and their success (or lack of mediocrity) has been sustainable/real (unlike Clevelands from a few years back). So really, he hasn't done all that much to lose his job either... he's simply done enough to justify the 5 year contract he got.
Kubiak is back but he needs to fire the running backs coach, offensive line coach, and special teams coach. Running game was terrible and the running backs and offensive line but were the reason. Kick return game was horrible this year. I expect Rick Dennison to take over as offensive coordinator for Kyle Shannhan.
Considering what they came into, I think Kubiak and co has done a great deal with the franchise. Hell, the 8-8 seasons were done with the starting QB missing a good chunk of the games and the starting RB of both seasons going down and having to be replaced by the second or third options. This season, we lost our starting offensive guards, our center came into the season banged up, we've gone through multiple Free Safeties, lost one Pro Bowl TE, one rookie blocking TE, our kicker has had a horrible season at all the wrong times, one of our starting CBs started the season as crap and the other was Fred Bennett. I can't think of many teams that have gone through as much and ended the season in as good of position like we have. Kubiak at least deserves his last year on contract, especially since I have yet to hear of another coach then Cowher, Mike Shanahan or the retired Dungy that wasn't run out of their team for producing a vastly inferior product to what Kubiak has shown.
