He WILL be held accountable at the end of the season. That's why Kubiak is sticking with him. What good would pulling him do for us in the long run? Sure, Sage might jumpstart the offense, but this season is lost anyway, so who cares? Is Sage the QB of the future?

We have to find out if Carr is the guy or not. I know a lot of people have already made up their minds and I'm starting to agree with them, but clearly Kubiak wants to give him the rest of the season. Can you blame him? We're not going anywhere this season, so why not see if Carr can overcome all of this? We have a larger investment in Carr than Sage.

No I don't believe you put Rosenfels in as starter. There is a reason why he was available to the Texans as a backup. I'm not saying he isn't good or could lead the team, IMO he is not a starter.

The Texans are not going to draft another QB high in the upcoming draft due to the other holes in the team. They need talent and depth especially on the DL, secondary and OL. Not to mention a RB who can carry the damn ball furhter than 2 yds per carry. That is the real reason why we suck so bad this season. Thats the reason why we can do a damn thing because the running game has stalled and the offensive scheme (the Bronco system) is predicated on the running game.

I've just about had it with Carr as well. I'm tired of seeing the checkdown pass on just about every play. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he has talent and Kubiak believes that he can run this system and thats good enough for me. I don't believe Carr is ever going to be a superstar, he'll be an average QB at best, but thats all we need, someone to make the completions and help lead the offense down the field to score.

My main concern is having a strong defensive unit. It is amazing to me that there is still a lack of a pass rush. I think Johnson needs to go away, he hasn't proven that he can stop the run or rush the passer. Payne is most likely gone after the injury. IMO the Texans need a strong DT to plug the holes and help break up the pocket for the opposing team. They also need help in the secondary in the worst way and need to upgrade their linebackers. On offense we need a RB and some OL, which should hopefully look better with Spencer back and Winston getting some playing time now.

I read all about this and that but the biggest problem i have is other than Robinson, no one can cover in the secondary. The safties are terrible in coverage, Faggins,McCleon,Sanders and all those guys suck also. They had to sign Dalton as a run stuffer after they cut Smith. Travis has done nothing to date. I go into the draft looking the same at defensive help. In Free agency i go get Nate Clements and low ball Mike Doss with a incentive layden contract then i draft Landry or meriweather for the other saftey.

    major, your bias is showing.

this is such a ridiculously asinine statement that is borders on talk show-like hyperbole.

major, in which of the three games since the titans did carr "suck." this is what i mean by the bias. he sucked? as in aaron brooks-like? or bruce gradowski-like?

the bum shoulder isn't "according' to me - he had a bruised shoulder and left a game two weeks ago. i know, i know - excuses....

which performance has been excused? and he has been held accountable. do you read or listen to any of the local coverage? kubiak's been on his ass from day one. relentlessly.

he's still starting and people go out of their way to make excuses for him, thats why people think he's being held unaccountable

I agree with Major on this point. Sage did more things in that one half of football that I've never seen Carr do in his whole career. You may be able to point to stats that Carr had for a half that were superior to Sage's, but it's not about stats with Carr.

Sage was so much smoother then Carr progressing through his reads, and you could actually see him looking at his second and third option. Another thing that I saw Sage do is buy more time in the pocket with his legs only to throw and complete a 20 yard pass to a WR. How many times have we ever seen Carr scramble out of the pocket and deliver a deep strike to a WR down the fiield? I can't remember ever. If Carr takes off running he is no longer looking to throw the ball unless it's a designed rollout.

he was benched. against the titans. he was then given a chance to respond to the benching, on the road, against a very good team and he played very well in that game. FWIW, i assume kubiak would have yanked him yesterday, but rosenfels got hurt and so he couldn't.

but two things are abundantly clear this year - 1) kubiak rides carr constantly; he's no longer being pampered or excused; he calls him out a lot and expects a lot out of him; 2) kubiak occassionally slips and gives us some insight into what carr's first 4 years were like. just last week, i heard him, or maybe it was carr, say he's never been properly taught how to prepare for games. it was on the radio, or i'd reproduce the exact quote. now, imagine playing FOUR YEARS in the league and not knowing how to do something i think a lot of us would assume was figured out prior to season 1. amazing.

i maintain carr will be ok if they can get some talent around him. nothing special - aikman-like. but more than what i may or may not know, i HOPE he's ok, because if he's not, this rebuilding process is going to take THAT much longer.

so i remain optimistic because the alternative is 25,089 times worse. does that blind me to reality? maybe, but the difference in the... i wouldn't even call us pro-carr, but, whatever, is that we don't go extreme, like, for instance, posting that carr has "sucked" or that he's not nfl-caliber or all the other hyperbole bull**** too many of the anti-carrs spew.

he's been VERY good this year; he's been VERY bad this year. more often than not, he's been good enough for the texans to win more than 3 games. anyone who sat thru all 16 games last year and all 11 games so far this year can see he's made progress. he has a ways to go, but he's not yet a lost cause.

Whatever the reason is...they dont win. Sometimes a QB change can spark a team...wake em up...and sometimes the new guy gets a better response from his teammates and so on...

I dont see any harm in giving Rosenfels a shot to win a few games down the stretch. You arent going to destroy Carr's mindset any more than the losing already has.

I have to think that some of the players probably dont think they can win with him. They arent going to come out and say that...because there ARE other issues on the team...but i think the team needs a change...and it starts at the top.

well that takes us back to the organization not making good decisions....how do u draft a guy #1 and not realize that the guy doesnt know how to prepare for a game properly? I was under the impression that these draftees...especially the higer drafted ones...go thru tons of phsychological tests and interviews etc to see what type of guys they are

...and if he didnt learn it college, then how the heck do you not learn in the 1st year...or TWO? maybe the guy is a moron?

    Honestly . . .I didn't know
I guess I don't watch alot of Cowboys football
    but
I generally had not heard anything about him

BTW . . If he was so special . .why was he undrafted?

I think people caught up on PROTOTYPEs and CUBBIE WHOLING PEOPLE
Give Sage a shot .. instead of the bullsh*T lines like
    'he a career backup'
'he a late round draft pick'
    'he blah blah blah'

maybe no one has given the man a Real Shot

    GIVE SAGE A SHOT

I think Carr has gotten TOO MANY CHANCES AND SHOTS
    Can Sage just have 1?

there's no upside. rosenfels is not in the team's future; he's a back-up. the harm is that it robs kubiak's ability to evaluate carr in game situations. he wants to see how he responds to what's being thrown at him.

winning is irrelevant. the best they can do is 6-10 cause they aren't going to beat NE or indianapolis, so 4-12, 5-11, 6-10 - it's all relatively the same, so who cares if rosenfels can generate a few more wins? kubiak needs a definitive read on carr, which he can't get from the previous regime's efforts or from exclusively watching practice. i've said it before, i'll say it again - you almost have to treat carr as a rookie, or, at the very least, a first-year starter; throw out years 1-4. easy and convenient, i know, but that's how hard capers, et al, screwed the pooch with him, imo.

it's not an indictment of carr; it's an indictment of the previous regime. he wasn't even taught how to properly ready himself for NFL games on a week-to-week basis; how do you expect him to succeed in such an evironment?

he's had several in miami, but he couldn't beat out aj feely, jay fiedler, gus frerotte, brian griese, ray lucas... you know, the NFL's elite.

I think the Number 1 reason to Play sage is simple
    CARR IS TOO FRICKING COMFORTABLE!
He needs to know he can be replaced
he needs to learn to play with a sense of urgency
he needs to FEAR FOR HIS FRICKING JOB

Carr may have pressure from the Defenses
    but
he has had ZERO Pressure from sidelines or the upper offices
he always knows. . he will start next week . . no matter what
that. . . needs to change

But would winning 5 games instead of 3 games this year really benefit the team in the long run? That's assuming that Sage would make that much of a difference, which isn't exactly a given. Remember, we're talking about the long run, not just this year.

We're not going anywhere this year, so IMO the #1 priority is to see if we should move forward with Carr or not. How do you do that? Give him a full year under Kubiak.

You don't learn how to prepare for an NFL game while you're in college. That's the NFL coaching staff's job to teach him how to do it.

    how do you know?

i disagree there...i dont see how someone who is as accomplished as Kubiak needs any more games to evaluate Carr

if thats the case.,...then it would be nice if Mr McNair would refund my tickets while they hold a 5 or 6 week evaluation of David Carr instead of trying to win games

because sage rosenfels is a career back-up. he's had chances many times to beat out QBs far less accomplished than david carr and was never able to do it. he was a back-up to ray lucas, ferchrissakes.

because kubiak cleared the slate with each and every player and started from scratch. whatever happened previous to his regime is irrelevant in his evaluation.

what did you expect this year was going to yield - a playoff run? they won 2 games last season and completely overhauled their front office, coaching staff and roster. so if you bought tickets epexcting some overnight miracle to occur, you have no one to blame but yourself.

and they are trying to win games - this year and beyond. they need to know if carr is going to be the QB to do that or not. i'd rather "sacrifice" these next five games and have a definitive answer than go into next year with another giant question mark.

regardless, rosenfels is not the answer; if "someone as accomplished as kubiak" thought he was, he'd be playing.

i'll agree to disagree......but the Rosenfels argument is irrelevant unfortunately since he is out for the year

I love yalls "lets just write off this year and completely suck again" argument. I would rather have as many wins as possible. Winning can be contagious, so can losing, and thats what we're doing

Uh....I don't think we have much of a choice this year. What's the alternative? Should we install Bradley Van Pelt as the starter so we can make a playoff run???

This is true, but let's be honest. Most of the guys on this team right now won't even be here in 2 years.
