there is no way i would use a 2nd rounder on an "average" QB, especially with our needs (practically every position)
That quote is taken directly from the article. You should read it all; it's a good one...oh, btw, what's your phone #?
The problem with that logic is that if you put Kolb ahead of the game for being trusted and having a tough offense to run, you have to put Leak ahead of him. Urban Meyer raving about Chris Leak means more than Art Briles raving about Kolb. Add to that the fact that Leak has mastered two offenses in 4 years and won a national championship, and you have to put him well ahead of Kolb as a game manager. Drew Stanton has better tools as a traditional pro-style quarterback. Troy Smith has a better arm and mobility. None of this makes Kolb a bad pick, but no matter what you value, he's at best the 4th (if not lower) QB on the board. I'd like to see Kolb in a Texans uniform, but if they pick him with the 40th pick, they will have had to pass over a lot of talent.
Haha...I can tell you don't watch Florida games. If you've watched Florida games as much as I have (I'm a big fan of the Gators by association with my best friend), you'll have seen enough of David Carr in Chris Leak to scare you away for good. He's like David Carr with less arm strength and less mobility, *at the college level*. All of the fumbles, all of the bad throws, etc. etc. I'd hate to see what he looks like in the pros. Kolb is by far the better quarterback. Makes much better decisions, has much better footwork, has a better arm ... I can't even think of a single thing that Leak has on Kolb. Urban Meyer deserves all the credit for managing to mask Leak's deficiencies and utilizing him and Tebow to carry that team to a championship. That guy is a great college coach.
No... the title to this thread is your own... I didn't say "Kubiak didn't say sh*t"... OK... so he said "I've been real impressed with the kid." That puts him in... what... a group of a bunch of other QBs? Now... where are the articles where he says: "We're only looking at KOLB. F' all other QBs." ??? Why do you need my phone number? Is that the only way to call people? Yeah... I get it... I get it... we're only interested in what Kubiak says... and for the sake of this thread... only what Kubiak says about KOLB, right? Right.
The title comes from the article itself. Near the end of the article is this: "Kubiak has become a Kolb fanThe interview only reinforced Kubiak's evaluation. "Our interview with Kolb was one of the best I've ever had," Kubiak said. "He's just such an impressive person. I really like him." " Thus, the title of the thread...
Hyperbolic BS. He doesn't have to say that to be a fan of Kolb's. The article, as three other people have told you, states explicitly that "Kubiak has become a Kolb fan". Even though that is the writer's interpretation, it is still clearly spelled out in the article. The thread title was completely appropriate. You may disagree with the premise, but the title was fine.
I expect Kolb to be the 5th QB taken behind Russel, Quinn, Smith, and Stanton. I don't see us taking a QB in the 2nd round. Whether Kolb ends up a Texan or not depends on 1)How fast Smith and Stanton fall off the board. After the Big 3 last years, 2 QB's were taken in the 2nd round and 2 in the 3rd. 2) if other GM's decide to rate other QB's like Chris Leak or Trent Edwards ahead of Kolb. I think there's a pretty decent chance he could fall to our pick in the 3rd where they might decide to take him.
The problem is that all of his reads in college were pre-snap. He already knows where the ball is going to go before the snap ever takes place so it's hard to tell how he will react to having to think under the pressure of a rush.
1) all his reads? ill say no to that one. maybe for the quick outs and screens, but everything else? all on the fly 2) he dealt with the pressure of a rush for half of his career. did a decent job of it too. see 2004-2005.
