1. Patience is a virtue, especially for college fans. I'm going to support my school no matter what. If Michican, Ohio State, A&M etc had fans that lived by the creed "show me the money" their programs would suck too.. 2. Progress? I think going from one bowl game from 1992-2002 to two in the past three years is progress. Rome wasn't built in a day, and virtually NO college football program can be either. I feel we're right on track as a program. 3. We fell off the map at the wrong time (Big 12 formation, BCS formation) and it has sucked all the money and fan support right out of the program... so what are your expectations? If UH had won this game would your attitude be COMPLETELY different? That seems kind of drastic to me. Will you be a fan only if we win 8-9 games a year? And lastly, on the game itself. I had a feeling this would be either a squeaker or a KU romp. Unfortuntely it was the latter. The fact of the matter is we ran into a KU team that was playing its best football of the season, they had just rattled off three high performance wins in a row. They had their best defensive unit, probably in the history of their school.. a team ladened with redshirt seniors (6 out of kansas' defensive front 7, yikes!) will ALWAYS beat a team of true freshmen and sophmores (UH had 10 freshmen, sophmores, or redshirt freshmen starting in this bowl game.. about 7 of them on the defense) which is unheard of, and a sure fire cause for poor tackling and penalties. I can understand why some older alums would be sick to their stomach of losing, especially after the jenkins hangover, but as a young alum I see a bright future ahead.. but its not going to matter if people like you and I aren't there to see it.
I was fairly certain KU would win this one. Was shocked that anybody thought otherwise. But the scoreboard did surprise me. I thought KU would annihilate UH's offense, but have difficulty putting up points themselves. After all, KU's offense...errm...sucks. Games with BCS versus non-BCS conferences are always the most difficult to call. Except for exceptional cases, like 2004, the BCS team will have substantially more talent and generally better coaching. But if they're playing a non-BCS team, the BCS team generally is disappointed at a lousy season and doesn't care. On the other hand, if they do care - they generally win by 3 TDs. Kansas cared. They haven't had much success lately. They scraped to get in a bowl game at all this year. In the end, Nick Reid may be Vice Young/Adrian Peterson's b****...but he's still a far better player than Kolb. I think UH is headed for good times under Briles. I wouldn't be surprised - at all - to see them have one of the mid-major Cinderella years. Maybe a 11-1 record, and a bunch of hype. But contend for the title? They're still a have-not, as this game illustrated. I wanted the Coogs to play tough in this game. I hated this team during bleacher-gate. But Briles is a good guy. Still, this is a positive season for them and hopefully they'll fare better next time.
