Good for the land owner. How is this different that a homeowners association or a coop board exercising control over their neighborhood or building? Would you want a mosque next door to you? Of course not. I don't want a bunch of screamers next door to me at 5:00am every morning. Who wants to wake up to the sounds of goats being slaughtered?

They're not allowed to eat pork (which I think is what you meant). But they're allowed to eat meat, it has to be halal. I forget if that means it has to be killed via slitting the throat, or if the blood has to be drained that way...

    Poor attempt at sarcasm:

On a similar note, does anyone else get annoyed on Sundays when you're going to the store and you live next to a church? Like the detours and stoppages everywhere. The cars don't move. Why do people have to get together and pray? Don't people read their bible anymore? Pray in private please.

    Matthew 6:5 - 6:8
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."

    /End Sarcasm

What a great opportunity for the Islamic church to show the neighborhood what tolerance and love is all about. If they can quietly go about their worship and ignore (or even reach out too) their neighbors in a helpful way - even the ones being jerks.

I have never lived near a mosque. Is there something particularly noisy or disruptive about one (other than the standard traffic issues)? Is there really something that will wake neighbors up at 5am? If so I would imagine their are local ordinances.

Otherwise the nieghbors should look at this as a way to learn more about other cultures/beliefs.

Local noise ordinances control ringing churchbells. Mosques are treated no differently. I'm unaware of any mosque in Houston which does the 5 a.m. prayer over a loudspeaker as we see in the Middle East, for example.

No, no, the 5 AM prayer call is not over a loudspeaker, you can't hear anything from outside. The traffic will be drawn on Friday afternoons around 12 or 1, because that's our holy day and we have a large congregational prayer held at that time. I actually live in Katy, so when I get back home from school next week I'll definitely check this place out to see what all the commotion is about.

the same way churches gather on sunday mornings and sometimes wednesday evenings. no one seems to have a problem with that out in Katy, despite a huge facility for Second Baptist right near a neighborhood....THE HORROR!!!!

If it was me, I'd have a bigger problem with a money-grubbing McChurch like 2nd Baptist than a mosque, but I guess that is just me. In case anybody cares, from personal experience Ed Young is the antichrist, or at least the antichrist’s personal used car salesman.

At least with a mosque in the USA you know the people are sincere.

Are you saying Muslims are inherently more sincere than Christians?

No, I'm saying that in the United States an insincere Benny Hinn scammer would find it easier to get rich by peddling insincere religion Christians as opposed to Muslims. The concentration of Muslims is not sufficient to support populist Muslim con artists.

By the same token, I don't suspect that many Christians go as missionaries to Saudi Arabia with visions of accumulating great personal wealth.

Just in case someone doesn't know, there are no 'noises' made by mosques, there are no bells to ring, no music, no dancing...just a quiet, serene atmosphere that is conducive to prayer.

Moreover, where are houses of worship normally located? Unless you have a huge congregation -- say something like Lakewood -- then almost every single small/mid-size church or synagogue that I've ever come across IS located in a residential area.

Where I live, we have a synagogue that is located in the midst of a residential neighborhood (a subdivision), and from what I understand many Jews consider it a requirement to walk to their synagogues, so many tend to live within a mile -- or two max -- of their place of worship.
