I'm not because this happens to kickers sometimes. Two guys that stand out in particular are Al Del Greco of the Oilers/Titans who completely flamed out in a playoff game against the Ravens and Guy Vander Jagt of the Colts who did the same thing against the Steelers. Both were very reliable guys who just lost it all of a sudden. I think Vander Jagt remains the most accurate FG kicker in NFL history.
If the football gods allow the Jets to choke on themselves tonight and let the Texans into the playoffs, they have to bring in kickers tomorrow to try out. They could not go into a playoff game with Brown.
What about his 4 year contract extension through 2013? I believe he got almost 3 million guaranteed. I bet he sticks around for another year.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but the Texans should have signed Shaun Suisham when they had the chance. He did miss a crucial kick but other than that he has been very reliable while Kris Brown has just been all around terrible this season.
They'll bring in another kicker to compete with him next preseason. If he still has issues next preseason he'll be replaced.
I still stick with my original post. Even if we somehow make the playoffs, I think Brown should be cut tomorrow.
How very typical for a Houston football team; and then, he'll be really good all year and totally choke in the flipping playoffs
OMG! Could not agree more that this guy has to go. He is now missing point afters regardless whether it was the place holder's fault or any other excuse. I mean this guy has been here since the team's inception and he has had absolutely no competition for the spot. I'm sorry I like the guy but when you are missing point afters you have to go.
Cut Kris Brown tomorrow!! He missed 11 FGs (the most in the NFL) and a lot were close. I dont want to see him next year! He was good before, but his time is up.
Initially I was like this dude has to go. Now I'm willing to let him fix his problems in the off season. But if I were Rick I'd look to the draft as an option to make Brown earn his spot.
The Steelers got rid of this guy because he could not step up in the big games. He has proven that so far with the Texans.
His last year in Pittsburgh was even worse than this one. Under 70% success rate, 14 misses, 3 XP's missed. One game he even went 1/5 and the Steelers lost by 3.
