Honestly? You're right, it's wasn't all his fault that we lost. But he is the Kicker and his job is to make FGs. He missed one earlier in the game that would have gave us a lead.
Ian Howfield didn't last one season with the Oilers. Kris Brown has been with the Texans for 8 seasons.
i agree. Although I think we should have just kicked, instead of spotting the ball. In the end Fisher pull one over on us as EVERYONE including KB thought he was gonna call TO. KB kinda got caught off guard and shanked it....
Been wanting Kris Brown gone for a long time I know its easy to blame someone like the kicker since that his job. I don't know why people are so in love with him, I know he is an original Texan and has been here from the get go but the guy is inaccurate and has missed 3 of his last 4 kicks in key divisional games. Would we have won last game or the against the Colts in OT I don't know. People say he use to be clutch in past but that is used to be. So far he has 64.7% accuracy this season and is only 50% on kicks past 30 yards. People ask who we can replace him if I don't know, I don't follow fg kickers in free agency but I know we can find someone a little more reliable.
In fairness to Brown he did cause and recover a VY fumble, as well as caused Bironas to miss a FG. In seriousness though, Matt Turk punted great last night, including 2 huge punts in the 4th quarter.
Darn it. I seem to only remember the one that dropped in the end zone. I stand corrected, sir. True, Matt punted his butt off.
I mean you can say that and it's great and all, but that's why you HAVE a kicker. The kicker is an important part of your team. It's not like "don't leave the game in the hands of the refs," the kicker actually plays for you and is expected to put points on the board. Would you say "don't leave the game in the hands of your wide receivers?"
Hard to blame any game on the kicker but the fact of the matter is that NFL wins are hard to come by and kickers simply have to make those kicks. Hell, that's the difference in a couple of New England's championships. There is plenty of blame to go around, though: - 3 personal fouls to Tennessee's 0. Complete bull****. - Dunta Robinson blows. Gone after this season. You wanna get "paid", you gotta make those picks like the one he dropped. He also sucks in run support now, which used to be a strength. He really deserves more blame than KB, if you want to single out one player. - Playcalling down the stretch was terrible. 8 seconds left and a timeout and you run a ****ing QB DIVE!? Take a shot down the field! What difference does a yard make? That had me baffled. You go for the win first, then settle for overtime. - Schaub is holding on to the ball at the worst times. That second to last drive, he took a sack to make it 3rd and 14 instead of a 3rd and 5. Instant drive killer. Of course the o-line was below average too, but you just can't take that sack.
I don;t understand why people are saying it is hard to blame the kicker. The rest of the team did its job for the most part (maybe not the coach, but the players did). They put themselves in position to tie or even win the the game, but Brown blew 2 very makable kicks. Loss is on him
I agree. Kickers are players on your team. It would be like saying you can't blame the offensive linemen if they give up 20 sacks in a game, or you can't blame the receivers if they drop endzone passes, or you can't blame the defense if they blow assignments and give up huge runs. Field goals are important scoring opportunities that teams rely on. I wonder how many games have been won historically where the kicker has missed 2 field goals.
it wasn't about the yard. it was about putting the ball between the hashes so he could kick it straight on instead of kicking from an angle.
I knew that, too. I was wondering: "Uh, why must they do this? Why can't they just run forward to get it closer for a wider angle, or maybe just let Kris Brown, a professional kicker, figure out how to angle the kick to his right from the left hash mark?"
sorry you're so confused. give up six points in a game, and see how many times you win. (did I really have to explain that just now) I *love* KB. I hope he stays, and turns it around. Great guy with an outstanding record here. But if he keeps shanking kicks, he gotta go. He's not paid to raise money for charities and be a really great guy who used to make kicks. He's paid to kick the damn field goals.
I am not confused. I need to know what's "truth" you quoted. He was WONDERING. "I wonder" is asking for a fact. Here you go, sir, at least in Kris Brown's career: W vs. Cleveland '08 W vs. Jacksonville '06 EDIT: You have to go back all the way to 2005-2006 when Kris Brown missed 2 and the Texans lost... L vs. Jacksonville '05 20-38 BIRONAS this year: L vs. Pittsburgh What's your point, again about missing 6 points?
Momentum, and field position play a part in that too. The Titans got the ball on the 40 after Brown's first miss, and ended up going only 28 yards and getting 3 points on a 50 yard FG. The key thing for the Texans to remember though, is Tennessee missed a FG, and fumbled in FG territory, so at least the mistakes happened on both sides and evened out. Sensational game though.
really? but you've said this twice: I need to know what's "truth" you quoted. He was WONDERING. "I wonder" is asking for a fact. Here you go, sir, at least in Kris Brown's career: W vs. Cleveland '08 W vs. Jacksonville '06 What's your point, again about missing 6 points? [/QUOTE] I'm overwhelmed with the volume of sample you have there. I mean, wow. Really. Let me catch my breath. Why don't you look up how many times teams have *LOST* when missing two field goals? It's more difficult to win when you blow scoring opportunities. That's a simple concept to grasp. I'm sorry that's somehow offensive to you, but it's (and here's that word you seem to be so frustrated with for some reason) the TRUTH. Cry me a river.
