Bulls general manager Jerry Krause has not forbid Bulls players from attending Jordan's private pickup games on the city's West Side.

According to Tim Grover, who coordinates the contests, Ron Artest, Marcus Fizer, A.J. Guyton and Tyson Chandler have participated in recent days. Earlier this week, Bulls scouts B.J. Armstrong and Pete Myers escorted a group of Bulls rookies to Hoops the Gym so they could play with Jordan.

"I certainly have never, in any way, told anybody not to go down there," Krause said.

What Krause does want is the Bulls players to work out at the Berto Center with strength consultants Al Vermeil and Erik Helland. The Jordan pickup games were even moved from morning to afternoon to accommodate the Bulls' workout schedule.

The pickup games at Hoops the Gym intensified this week as Jordan continues to measure his progress for a possible NBA comeback this season at age 38. Security at the gym has been tighter than a trendy night club, with a guard at the door admitting only people who are on a pass list.

NBA all-stars from around the country have been invited to play with Jordan in the weeks before he makes a decision. So far, the games have been filled mostly with Chicago-area natives such as Michael Finley, Antoine Walker, Juwan Howard, Tim Hardaway, Quentin Richardson and Steven Hunter.

The Pistons' Jerry Stackhouse and the Suns' Penny Hardaway, who is coming back from a year off with a knee injury, were in town this week to play with Jordan. So was Akron, Ohio, high school sensation Lebron James, already a favorite to be the first pick of the 2003 NBA draft.
