disagree - if you have ever been to a comedy show, than you know that heckling is almost part of the act. there is always someone there who wants to be a big shot. usually though, the comedian comes out on top - they are the professionals, afterall. every comedian has a whole assortment of comebacks for hecklers. normally, it is the heckler who ends up looking foolish. as i said, i have been heckled on several occasions as a musician. as long as there is no physical assault on my person it is all in good fun.
To me he likely went ballistic and started spewing the most hateful things he could think of so he could hurt someone just like how he felt hurt. Maybe he is racist. I don't know. But I know I've said some stuff in arguments with my wife that I really don't feel. But because I was feeling so hurt I wanted to hurt her too.
the difference w/ kramer was that his tirade was outside the context of his act. if a black comedian goes off on "crackers" w/in his act that is different than verbally attacking specific audience members based on their ethnicity. EDIT: i do believe that if a black comedian of similar fame and noteriety had attacked white audience members like kramer did than it would be just as big a controversy.
Richards didn't just use the n word, he berated them with slavery...seriously. He may not be racist deep down. He may truly be sorry. But it will hang over him. He needs to accept it. He f'ed up.
Great Post. And so true. Kramer messed up, but those dudes should have been kicked out well before it got to that. I don't like it but he did say, "You guys have been talking all night".
Let me get this straight You not offended because he wasn't talkign to you but Offended by the actions of someone . . . .who was not you You worried about how others may perceive you . . based on the actions of others? Oh well . . .. there are one of you every where Tell me. . . . . . is it still colder? Rocket River YEA . . . I SAID IT
Here's a way to stop people from talking during your set... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1qy9KvDtI5w"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1qy9KvDtI5w" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
the letterman appearance was really uncomfortable. the guy is so tied to his kramer character that even when trying to be serious he is still kind of funny, as his kramer mannerisms kept popping up. it was wierd when jerry told the audience to stop laughing, but you cant blame them. its almost a pavlonian response to laugh at the guy - its kramer! does anyone else think that jerry made kramer go on letterman and apologize? the timing of kramer's tirade could not have been worse, as jerry is out trying to promote the new dvd. i highly doubt kramer called jerry and asked to go on - the whole thing seemed rather forced.
well said...excellent post those guys were apparently mouthing off all night...try that at a Broadway show and you wont last 2 minutes. i find it funny that the hecklers (or other audience members) kept shouting "that was uncalled for"...as if all of a sudden these hecklers were civil people who were within their rights to prevent this guy from earning a living (regardless of how much money he has from seinfeld) and finishing his act
if the heckler was calling Richards a cracker, would he not be justified in calling the heckler a ******? i think that's what Ra Oh was getting at.
Question: Describe behaving like a n***** Please tell me what those characteristics are. . . The definition of N**** according to Ra Ooh La La Please. . .Enlighten Me Rocket River now .. I'm just curious
It came out After his tirade . . from the video I saw I mean . . .let's think of it like this what If someone told a jewish person 70 yrs ago we would have had you in a concentration camp . .or an oven . . If the jewish person was being an *ss . .would that be justified? Rocket RIver
You guys are nuts. Rude is rude, but I can't imagine anything that these "hecklers" could have said that would justify someone screaming at them, "Fifty years ago we would have LYNCHED you ******s!!"
folks will believe what they want to believe, whether it is true or not. My belief is that he isn't a racist. My thought is that the poor guy is forever type cast as a specific personality type - and will never be perceived by the public as anything more than that. He has reached the pinnacle of his career and regardless of his obvious talent as a comedic actor he will not ever surpass what he has already accomplished professionally. This led him to be doubly hurt when the guys in the crowd were giving him a hard time as he is trying to work in an environment that is obviously not his calling. His response was to try and hurt them as bad as he was hurt himself. The way that manifested itself was by Cosmo saying some of the most hurtful things he could conjure. I don't think the guy is a bad person and I don't think he is a racist. I think he had terrible judgement and a really bad day. I feel for the guy.
nice post. we've all have had that feeling and verbally lashed out with personal attacks. i don't really think he's "racist" either. it was just a meltdown.
