Excuse me? N*gger is not some part to play and get called out on. Neither is "white trash." Idiot is. Moron is. Dumbass is. Those are actual descriptions of behavior. But saying that because you are acting in a bad manner allows someone to used deragotory slurs against whatever race you are? That's bull****. And what the hell does that mean? Because blacks may have it harder due to a few dumbasses in positions of power who choose to judge the many by the actions of a few, because we all look alike? If they do, that's racist thought in and of itself, and I sure as hell ain't living on this earth to appease the opinions of a few, shallow-minded racists. Unlike you, I'll won't be satisfied by a world where no blacks act in an unappealing manner to the majority, so that we can all "progress" with their blessing. I'm working towards a world where I'm not judged based on other's actions because of our shared etnicity. Anyone who would judge my character in such a way has an opinion that isn't worth two sh*ts to me anyway. The best way to get there is by living a good life and calling these fools out when confronted by their ignorance, not appeasing them.
AR, I can totally embrace the sincerity of what you have to say. And truly, I don't disagree with you. I actually really appreciate your take. I believe I temper my disappointment and outrage simply because of the subjects involved. I'm not a fan of foolish individuals. I don't care what color they are. It specifically bothers me however when I see black people know they're doing wrong, but get upset when someone insults them accordingly. My thinking on that has always been . . . don't be in the wrong. I don't run from cops. I pay my taxes. I don't steal money from my business. Honestly, though our world has made siginificant strides, we still start from behind, even in the slightest. Stereotypes are a fact of life. That's life. You don't operate with that at the forefront of your mind, but realistically it's something you have to fundamentally consider. And with that, rather than embrace and accept lowly behavior, we should expect and demand a higher standard for ourselves. Destroy the stereotypes. That doesn't happen by babying individuals who were out of line to begin. At least, that's how I see it. Because of all this, I simply can't really bring myself to support the hecklers by getting upset for them.
Kudos for what??? Approving of inflammatory racial terms to describe and chastise behavior, instead of more approprite real descriptions? How the hell does that help anything?
Sigh. I guess we just come from different positions. I hold stereotype against the people hwho use them, not those few that they draw them from. If I can be able to judge people on their merits, then so can others. That's the standard I hold people to. It's not a mission in my life to make sure myself or my people meet the ideal of what we "should" be by those that stereotype us. We may as well be "Tommin'" if that's what our goal is, imo. Also, I'm not "babying" these men. Had they been called the "assholes" they were acting like ( if they even were. We have to face to possibility that Richards' set was legitimately bad), I'd have no problem. But I won't have anyone, ANYONE, publicly calling me, or my people n*gger just because they act in a manner that said person finds unsatisfactory. We left that sh*t years ago and it sets a horrible precedent. I don't use or support the use of racial slurs being used to chastise anyone else's behavior. I'd like to be treated in the same manner.
By the way, I'm going to bed now. Cosmo f*ckin Kramer is not worth all this **** at 2AM. Damn, I told myself I'd stay out of this thread...
No. More along the lines that in todays society, we are all equal, period. I have friends of all persuasions, and I enjoy it, except for those F-ing JAP's. (Being from Bellaire, I can say that. You see, there always needs to be levity in these situations.) My earlier statements elaborate the rest. I'll go into the corner now and eat my cracker.
We may all be equal, but some people are still more equal than others. ...Just watched his interview. Painful stuff... I think that's a lesson to script or rehearse whenever you're on camera...and staying sober.
Absolutely. And we all know it. The fact is nobody in anyone's generation these days caused it. As stated, I went to pre-school through college with everyone. While Diff'rent Strokes may have helped, Webster only confused the situation. And I still couldn't figure out whether Clubber Lang was B.A.Barrakus, or vice-versa. You guys have no idea what the 70's born white man's plight has become. Honestly... Hong Kong Phooey??? WTF was he supposed to be?? 70's children and on were brought up with a system that tells us we are supposed to look at everyone equally. I know I was brought up in that regard, and yet I still can't do it. Believe it or not, we all notice differences in each other. Women are inferior. Blargh. I said it.
I'm noticing them. And I certaintly don't "respect" a difference. Why would anyone? Would you "respect" someone for being white?
If you want a pat on the back because you have to think before you say something stupid these days, then I can't really get with you, Fatty. We all got problems, but white guys born in the 70's are doing just fine. I'm a white guy born in 1970, so I should know. Incidentally, that footage was painful to watch. It was ugly and Richards will never recover from this.
I guess I have to assume you were born in the 70's, because you certainly haven't bothered filling out your profile. Kramer said idiotically stupid things this past weekend. And the forum was attrocious. But it is, and should, be time where adults (not sure you are one yet) our age can get together and openly speak about this. I know I don't have a lick of racism in me. But we all have predjudices. As awful as what Richards said was, maybe it will open up to more open communication, rather than a blanket Barney Statement: ("I love you.. You love me...") The sad part is, some of you expect a "Barney" world one day. News-flash... it won't ever happen.
I'm glad Ra Ooh La La showed up, dude pretty much articulated what I wanted to but either could not find the words nor the courage to say. I've learned a lot from this little discussion.
i don't get this. of course Ra Oh La La doesn't want to be associated with them. if they really were calling richards racial epithats themselves, why would he? people don't want to be generalized and stereotyped and that seems to be exactly what you're encouraging.
Black comedians call white people crackers all the time. It's just a name get over it people. If someone calls a me a blue eyed devil or honkey It doesn't offend me. Why do white people get so offended so easily?
How much of our American history involves white people being lynched? I am a big Seinfeld fan and I really liked Micheal Richards on that show, but this is really unforgivable, regardless of the color of your skin.
