Heckling is generally par for the course in a comedy club, it goes with the territory, at least that's what I've always thought. The way to handle them is supposedly to outwit them, not do what Richards did.
Here's another clip of how you handle hecklers... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0S4nSzE4N-o"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0S4nSzE4N-o" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
'sigh' My point was, Ra Oh La La shouldn't value the opinions of people that would judge him based on the actions of those two men, just because they all share a skin color. Nothing more, nothing less. Also, when the hell did we determine that they were call Richards racial ephitets anyway? Judging by their reactions after his tirade, I doubt it.
I have to agree. The hecklers were dumbasses; it is perfectly understandable to meltdown and just get into a showdown (whether it is 'normal' in standup or not). But are most of you trying to say that when you go into meltdown mode the first thing you go for is race - and not only that, but the most extreme, horrible acts of racism that you know? I mean, hell, even possibly calling them "N******" would almost fall under that meltdown description - I could possibly give you that - but he went even farther. All parties involved were freakin' idiots. But to say that Richards just said what he did because he was 'angry' is a little naive IMO. EDIT: That Letterman apology was the most surreal, awkward thing I've ever seen.
I watched it again and he just lost it...and was trying to hurt the guys that were heckling him and went WAY over the top. Do I think he is a racist...no...but he knows that those words are ugly and hurtful and he used them. Too bad...but he will get over this...heck he has more publicity now than he has had in 5+ years. America loves a comeback ! DD
If someone says heckling is par for the course in stand-up one more time in this thread (as if we didn't know that), then I'm going to round all you cracker honky pale white-skinned burger eatin mf-ers up and take you over to the Pakistani tribal areas so you can be beheaded like the white trash cake eatin french fry lovin potato head war mongering indian killing "my poop don't stink" hot pocket eatin white chocolate turds that you are...assuming you're white. All you other raced people can have their loots and homes.
if you weren't offended by what richards said because he didn't say it to you, why should you be offended by the actions of the hecklers? you honestly can't say if he was right or wrong? that's ridiculous, dude made light of lynchings, nothing justifies that, even if your fellow black man acting a fool in a comedy club. if you feel more embarrassed because the hecklers were black you have deep issues you need to deal with. Should a white person walking down the street in houston be embarrassed if there is a white heckler in a comedy in L.A. embarrassing himself. that's some ignorant logic.
I hated Seinfeld. Probably the most annoying show I've ever seen. Seriously, it made me want to fight something.
whatever the heckler said obviously pushed him over the edge and he wanted to hurt them in the same way. he was wrong, but i doubt he meant it after watching the apology on letterman. he doesn't need to try to save his career. he will live a better life than most of us by living off of seinfeld, if he never works again. IMO that was a real apology from a guy who is devastated by his actions, as he should be.
what?!? Seriously, that's just blasphemous and borderline jihadist. Trashing Seinfeld is just another tally to the Jihadist winning streak.
Seinfeld is the greatest sitcom of all time. If you disagree, you probably like to punch babies in your spare time. But KKKramer was never the funniest on the show. It is George. He is the one who carried the show on his shoulders.
The apology wasn't awkward to me at all. I think people are so used to seeing him as 'Kramer' that when they see him as a real person, he appears 'awkward' in comparison. I would have rather seen him like this than reading some hollow prepared statement put out by his publicist. Anyway, he said some REAL stupid stuff in a fit of rage and apologized for it. Can we move on to some more pressing issues now?
Are you kidding? The audience trying to figure out when to/if to laugh? The long silent pauses? Letterman struggling to word his questions? Seinfeld telling people not to laugh? Man, that seemed pretty awkward to me.
That's like those freaks out there who didn't like The Simpsons. They truly frighten me. Seinfeld kicked ass.
