As I understood it he was always eligible to be waived as long as the reasoning wasn’t deemed as a punishment for the charges brought against him. If Houston did it there was probably an avenue for it to be argued that they were only doing it as punishment. If he’s traded and waived then it removes the possible red tape of ending the contract.
I assume some pieces are going to be re-flipped. Either way it will be intriguing to see who gets moved (especially since everyone is either brand new, or a lottery pick), or how a 9-man rotation shakes out.
Houston Rockets F Darius Days – Undrafted, 2022 NBA Draft. G Trevor Hudgins – Undrafted, 2022 NBA Draft. F Jermaine Samuels Jr. – Undrafted, 2022 NBA Draft. Still 3 partials.
Somebody tell me what’s in it for the Thunder. They’re waiving Porter, so they can’t used his salary at the trade deadline, which they COULD have done with the two guys they sent to us. So they’re essentially paying $16M for two mediocre 2nd rounders? What am I missing here?
The Oklahoma City Thunder entered training camp with 21 players on the roster, including three spots taken up by two-way contracts. This meant the Thunder was eventually going to have to move three players, but they gave them a fair chance to show their capabilities in preseason. To open the season, Sam Presti mentioned how he had to "make a decision" on Victor Oladipo's contract, too, as Oladipo is injured. According to Adrian Wojnarowski , the Thunder has begun making moves. The team is trading Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl for Kevin Porter Jr. and two future second-round picks while waiving Porter Jr. immediately.
